Are We a Tier 1 "Lock"?

I know we have a lot of positive attributes....Canada's creative offense, Connor, Clemson win to name the big ones....but are we really a Tier 1 "lock"? Here's my concern....It looks like barring Clemson being upet this week or in Orlando is in the CFP and Louisville, Fla. St. and Va. Tech will fill the Orange, Citrus and Russell Athletic in some order. That takes us to Tier 1's four spots. It appears that NC, Miami, and Pitt should end with 8 wins and WF and Ga. Tech with 7. It appears based on past precedent that the "one win rule" is still in place and any 4 of those 5 could be selected.

Obviously M&M's can (Money and matchups) can affect what bowl will want what team. Could we get screwed to Tier 2 and either a return to the Military or if they don't want us two years in a row even slide to the Independence or Quick Lane??

I'm not tryng to be negative but I'm concerned. A GT upset over Ga makes this even scarier. Wake is located geographically such that they would be attractive to the Belk Bowl if the Pinstripe settles on, say Miami and Taxslayer takes N.Carolina. GT has a little bit of a Sun Bowl history.

If somehow there is more chaos and Clemson gets knocked from the playoff this scenario gets even more realistic. Hope I'm wrong. Just seems we've always got screwed in Bowl selection situations.

Wake is going to lose and be 6-6.

Even if they win, Wake has the smallest alumni base of any ACC school. They have a VERY small fan base and their proximity doesn't help them.

Wake isn't bumping Pitt from a bowl.

Brett McMurphy from ESPN has Wake - Washington State in the Sun Bowl... and Pitt - Temple in the Military Bowl. How about no.

Then the ACC ESPN page has Pitt in the Russell Athletic Bowl, which I just don't see at all.

I wouldn't be shocked if Pitt got screwed in some way.

See my post on this earlier this week.

We are a lock if:

1. We beat Syr

2. Wake loses to BC

3. Clemson wins its next 2.

4. The Big Ten gets the Orange (and it would take something extreme for them not to)

If Wake beats BC, I do fear that the Belk would take them which could really screw Pitt. If they do, I would say:

RA: Miami

TaxSlayer: VT

Pinstripe: UNC

Sun: Pitt

What helps Pitt is they could be fighting GT for that last bid. They beat GT, GT doesn't travel, and were in the Sun 4 years ago.

The Pinstripe gave up a Backyard Brawl for Syracuse and picked Duke over us so its pretty clear they dont want us.

HAHAHA He should lose his job immediately. Wake Forest gets in over us and we play in the same bowl 2 years in a row? This guy clearly has no idea what he's talking about.

Someone posted on the other board that the ACC Website now states that they don't follow the "one-win rule" anymore so any bowl-eligible team could be selected over Pitt.

The one game rule is based on conference wins. not total wins. if wake is within I conference win of Pitt it can trump Pitt and take a bowl slot away from Pitt. The formula is conference wins not total wins. Don't blame Barnes if we get screwed nobody wants Pitt.

A 6-6 Wake can trump an 8-4 Pitt, since they will only have 5 conference losses and Pitt will have 4. The pone game rule applies to conference records. The ACC will take care of Wake , just watch.

Incorrect. Pitt will be 5-3 with a win Saturday.

Incorrect. Pitt will be 5-3 and Wake will be 3-5 in that scenario.

If there are enough 8 win teams to fill the tier one, 7 can't be picked. If not (like last year),
then all 7 wins are eligible for tier one and can knock out an 8(again see pitt last year).

not accurate. Not conf wins. 7-5 wake could get picked over 8-4 pitt only if wake gets into tier one pool. (not enough 8's to fill)

correct, see last year.

He makes projections for every bowl... somehow I doubt he looked into that.

We traveled 10-12k last year to Navy, at least.. Our rep has to be on the rise..

-That's fine. I'm ok with playing Maryland and winning 62-14. In fact, Id like to get into Maryland recruiting territory. Kicking their ass would be perfect in a tier 5 bowl game. All I care about is 9 wins.

Wow have to load these variables into my Super Computer but you forgot two:
1. If the earth reverses its track around the sun
2. If the find human life in Chicago

According to ESPN.com reporter David Hale Pitt is guaranteed a Tier 1 Bowl if we beat Syracuse and either GT or Wake loses this weekend. So go Georgia and Boston College!

Hale also said a WVU-Pitt matchup would be "very attractive" for the Russell Athletic Bowl. I just don't see it though.

Let's be honest - the Pitt fans that do not support the program are screwing Pitt.

we sold 7K tickets last year not 12K. get real.

We sold 8K. They sold out in 5 days. I waited too long and had to buy through the bowl. At a minimum, the section I was in, which was say from the 30 to the endzone and was notna designated Pitt section was 30% Pittt fans. 10-12K is a safe bet. Perhaps as many as 15K.

There were about 15k or so Pitt fans in Annapolis. I have never been more impressed by a Pitt turnout in my life. Annapolis was like South Side filled with Pitt people walking the streets. The tailgates were loaded with Pitt fans as well.

If Pitt and Wake win but GT loses, I dont see why GT or Wake, at 7-5 couldn't technically get picked over Pitt. Not saying they would, but why couldn't they? 7-5 Duke and NCSU got picked over 8-4 Pitt last year.

That Sunday night in beautiful downtown Annapolis on the waterfront in 70 degree weather with Pitt fans all over the place was one of the coolest things I've seen.

Hmm good question. I'm not sure but it sounds like Hale is wrong here.

Given bowl politics as relates to all the minor bowls, there is no such thing as a lock! Given the size of our following, expect to be disappointed.

Why?

Pitt 8-4
Wake 7-5
GT 7-5

Pitt guaranteed

Pitt 8-4
Duke 7-5
NCSU 7-5

Pitt passed over

Again, explanation please.

we sold 7K tickets last year not 12K. get real.

We traveled 10-12,000 to the bowl game last year. I was there, may be you were not, but 80% of the Pitt sideline was Pitt fans.

Our initial allotment was 7,300, sold quickly...and then sold two more requested allotments of 500, and an additional 190 tickets through a third quick sale. Through the University alone we sold 8,490 tickets. There were additional blocks of tickets sold directly through the Bowl itself, and then hundreds of people who bought tickets from other sources, like stubhub, etc.

So two questions for you: Are you that uninformed? Or just an asshole?

Not sure(GT), if there are 4 8 left for tier one-guaranteed-7's not eligible.
If not, 7's are eligible and can pass 8.
If not enough 7's for tier one, 6 eligble(WF) but can't pass 8.
