There's no arguing that P-5 college football is the major revenue generator at schools like Pitt. The importance of a winning football team becomes more evident now that attendance of our basketball games requires a slight masochistic predilection. Looking at the money being thrown at HC's like Stoops (Kentucky / $4 Million) and Fuentes at VT ($3.25 Million in 2017 to $4 Million in 2023) are we playing a dangerous game by leaving ourselves exposed at "value" based rate?

I'm estimating a total comp package at Pitt for HCPN in the $2.5 Million range which is "big money" at Pitt, but not as it relates to the top 50 jobs in the country. It bears stating that HCPN was a step up in pay commitment for Pitt from where they were with Paul Chryst ($1.65 Million). It seems evident to me that HCPN is the best thing to happen to Pitt football in many years and that we need to secure his place here by making an investment commitment to him and the program sending the message that Pitt is serious about winning for the long term.

Continuity inside this program has never seemed more important. If we're to take the next step perhaps we begin by removing some of the specter of fear swirling around our program remaining a stepping stone. If we're not going to break that cycle what's the point of any of this?
