It allows Pitt Fans to see if Coach Pat is going to be a New Dynamic Head Coach all season long and it starts Away at Iowa against Kirk Ferentz and the rest of Pitt Schedule? Or if he will need more time to learn to be a Head Coach or make changes to the Staff? As oppose to playing a 5 Player Starters Losses Rutgers, SDSU and Army like Franklin is doing at Penn State and at Home?

The very best coaches always enjoy playing against best to be the best! So, we will soon see if Coach Pat & Staff have that kind of muster or will need some more experience to make Pitt Is It!

We shall soon see?

Oh captain my captain....
I'm not going to read more into the game than it being one game. I'm not looking for a savior for Pitt football and the Iowa game win or lose is not going to sway me one way or another on PN. CFB is a long, long season....too long IMHO.
But like you I agree that the best coaches enjoy playing the best. I'm excited that our players will get to experience a road game in a state where few of us have been...Iowa may not be a blue blood, but they have a rich history, a great fanbase and have done an admirable job with their program.
I think our staff and players will surprise us....don't ask me why, but look for our WR's to do more than we have a right to expect.
PN has coached in big games for over a decade and seems to be enjoying the role of "CEO" (as he puts it).
Finally, there is one benefit to being on the raod few discuss....the smaller traveling squad presents fewer challenges and forces coaches (if they are good) to tighten their game plans.
They know who is going to travel and who is not. Raod trips are so much more enjoyable when you have less to pack.

Excellent Post, says so much more, and Pitt and Coach Pat & Staff and Players have so much do and prove plus it will be fun to see if they can do it???

It is just one game that grows every year, and if Pitt loses we continue to rebuild towards the Top 25, but if Pitt Wins against Ferentz and Iowa, it very well could portend to better things to come sooner and not later to Pitt?

Well said, and thank you!

I agree

the real story line of interest to me is the performance of the coaches and PN in particular. Tough place to win but we will see how the new guy handles it.

So far so good for PN. 2 wins for starters if far better than the last two.

Hail to Pitt

Huge game for both programs. Arguably "huger" for Iowa. A win and they go into Madison 4-0 and the fan base is back.

If Iowa loses, the very vocal, negative portion of our fan base, can come out and say "told you so" and continue with their attempt to tear apart the program because they believe they know best and that Ferentz needs to go.

If Pitt loses, it certainly sets you back a bit but it seems most of your fans know that patinar doozy (leaving the spell check error!) can coach and with the coaching turnover you guys have had I'm guessing you can give him the benefit of the doubt even if it were a blow out Saturday. Which I do not think it will be.

If Pittsburgh wins then you guys know you're probably on the right track and the future looks pretty bright . But a win on Saturday is not a necessity in my opinion. At least not near what it is in Iowa City

It is a tough stretch when you have 3 road games in a row, but at least they built up gradually in terms in difficulty and importance. Iowa and Virginia Tech may be more or less similar in quality this particular year, I haven't studied them in depth. But the ACC factor of VT adds a bit more pressure/importance. Iowa may well be a L and we could possibly look really ugly on offense in it (I honestly wonder if we'll even score in this game). But at least it gives one more OOC game opportunity to figure out some answers (and there are still so many questions). A road game experience with a loud, big crowd. And (for those guys who may continue not to play due to injury), a week (two, actually) more to heal before conference games start. On the flip side of course, we have to hope nobody else key goes down.

Just my opinion but when I was playing or coaching I'd rather play at home.Like I've said many times I'm not too smart!!!Captain if I had Franklin's o-line I'd of scheduled The Rock and Cal U this year and pray I could beat them? But I'll say this get him now because he has studs in the stable and more coming next year for that o-line.He's gathering a lot of talent up there but this year and next he's very vulnerable.bwdik

Always a pleasure to read your insights Vulcan80! Quite agree, Franklin is going to build Penn state into a Top 25 Winner! He will find, recruit, and develop his Lineman, in my opinion.

Whether he can do it on OSU, Michigan, & MSU level has been answered, he is right with them in Top 15 Recruiting!

However, whether he can coach to beat Meyers, Harbaugh, and DAntonio will have to be seen, and not has an easy answer?

This is a great post except we don't give no stinkin coaches no lame benefit of the doubt here in Picksburgh.
