Can you guys.....some young....some older...submit in this thread a game from the past where pitt had it in the bag....and blew it.....

Some like today......are obvious.....

But games from the past...please refresh our memories with the specifics.

I will start...with today....and add the Houston disaster bowl game

With help from other posters...this should be entertaining. ...

I asked this question in another thread. I think this might be the biggest blown late lead besides Houston.

We needed 3 or 4 1st downs to win the game. They needed 2 touchdowns. It was nearly impossible to blow that.

If you ask any coach, any fanbase what is easier to win a game: 4 first downs or 2 touchdowns, you know what the answer is.

Honestly, the Houston game didn't bother me because it was a meaningless bowl. This had cincy in 09 all over it.

The problem is I have been a season ticket holder for 20 years. There have been so many disappointing losses I can't keep track of them. Someone mentioned in another thread that this is why we don't have a strong fan base. There is something to be said for that. I won't miss Saturday, but a 2-2 team against Marshall doesn't move the ticket window.

The Duke game a couple of years ago where we missed the game winning chip shot fg at the end of the game comes to mind.

I know a lot of people try to brush that Houston loss off, but it hurt as bad as any I can remember of late. That uc game was right up there as well...What about the game at UConn when they went for 2 and beat us and they didn't even have to go for two. They just gambled and won...That game cost us a bowl game.

All of the above. ND and Cincy were killers. I'll add the Zach Abraham touchdown in a WVU game at Pitt Stadium. The marginally talented John Ryan led an unlikely Pitt comeback, and all Pitt had to do was prevent WVU from scoring a TD with like 30 seconds on the clock. Slow-footed Abraham torched Pitt CB Denorse Mosely on the first play after the kickoff.

The Graham game at Iowa a couple years ago comes to mind.

One that sticks in my head was sitting in the rain watching lowly Temple come from behind to beat a good Pitt team when a long pass bounced off Quentin Jones helmet for a TD late.

I was at that game.....ouch

Pitt v ND 2012 3 OT.

Bingo!

That was just bad in so many ways. Between the phantom pass interference in the 4th quarter and the missed opportunities on offense to put it away it was just too much to take. That ref should have been suspended... for being paid off.
