I think you can tell whats going on by watching them. They aren't even engaged in the games anymore.

If I'm Heather, I try to use his assistants as leverage. Tell KS we'll negotiate the buyout, everyone saves face, we'll extend some parachutes to the assistant coaches. Maybe KS will want to get some money for his buddies, everyone leaves amicably.

If he doesnt play ball, fire his Vanderbilt lackeys (or dont renew their contracts, I would imagine they are on year to year contracts), make him hire a new staff, including hopefully an interim coach you want to take a look at in the middle of next season.

It's not like these assistant coaches are in on good players. What's the difference.

Yeah, and if any of their wives work for Pitt in some manner, threaten to fire them unless Stallings resigns.

Wonderful post: Use the assistants as leverage.

There are a few people on this board that I used to consider stalwarts of the board and very sane, reasonable people. I don't know what happened to them.

Fire the guy already. Everyone seems convinced it is going to happen.

But do we need all this?

You are the one who wrote the farcical "the man who will not quit" glowing tribute to KS a couple weeks ago (a coach who for all intensive purposes has quit and his team plays like it)....and I'm the insane, unreasonable one?

Whatever it takes to lower the buyout my friend.

Also, are any of the assistant coaches wives in Pgh, or like Mrs Stallings do they all live out of state?

I have to agree this is a bit much.

Just a by-product if heavy frustration I suppose, because Whirley seems like a good guy.

Lol. Just creative buyout reduction strategies. Plus, maybe it is a good way to get him to go, throw the assistants some money. Is that so unreasonable? Maybe my wording was a bit harsh.

I met a couple of these guys last year and they seemed enthused and working hard.

I’m not going to kill them over what that dipshit is doing

Not a dime back.

Stallings should not do Pitt any favors

"seemed" is probably the optimal word, it can't be easy for them. And look, I'm trying to help these guys, tell Kev to take a little less, spread some to the assistants.

But, its just so crazy that we hire 5 assistant coaches in 2 years and not one of them is in tight with a stud recruit. Although at this point, recruiting has to be borderline impossible.

How come all of Dixon’s problems were attributed to flunky assistant coaches but Stallings problems are in spite of them?

I have no reason to think in two years any of the staff has approached an acceptable level of performance.

I say make the big mouth, big money, empty-headed, high roller donors pay the entire Stallings buyout. Then let Lyke hire who she needs to turn this around, pay that coach whatever it takes, and make those same donors pitch in. One guy owns a big trucking company. Another is a big time doctor with millions to spare. There are others. If they all pitched in $5mil a piece, this would be over quickly.

Where did I say any of that?? I didn’t say these guys are good or bad.

Read your post. How am I taking that out of context? I don’t care how hard they are working, they brought in terrible players and haven’t developed them. That isn’t only on Stallings.

They need to be told that all you’re good for is your money

@whirlybird optio, we had the exact same conversation during the game.

Reduce number of basketball scholarships to 7? Make basketball scholarships partial scholarships?

Why stop there?

Kidnap his son?

I didn’t offer an opinion on whether these guys are good or not. I simply didn’t like the idea of messing with buyouts or other means and somehow exploiting these guys to get to Stallings.

Thats it....

Make him change assistant coaches...OH THE HORROR!!! Not the assistant coaches a.k.a. Vanderbilt managers. We got a no star PG from Idaho coming in (who also has a questionable character)...can’t risk losing him.
