What happens now if he stays? More ill will now between probably his bosses and also the fanbase. There is no reason why to make this public unless he was seriously taking the TCU job. He could have easily investigated it with serious discretion if he merely wanted to investigate the opening.

Now, all of this news, how serious these negotiations are, he has to go. Both from a Pitt standpoint and from a Dixon standpoint. This bridge has been burned in some respects. It not that dissimilar to Walt leaving for Stanford at this point.

He is not he is not going anywhere unless he really wants to leave. His "bosses" love him and do not want him to leave.

This is like when someone tells their boss they want more money and they're looking for another job.
Usually the boss finds a way so that the person has to find another job!

"turn out the lights the parties over"

Yes he has to leave now!
His only other option was to say no to TCU and let them continue to pursue him if they wanted him that bad!

That's not even remotely true. It wasn't true when he flirted with the Southern Cal job, or the Oregon job, or others.
All he has to do to shut people up is get a couple of smart players who give 100% and can make a basket once in a while!
You know, like he did before. All will be forgotten in a heartbeat.

They won't tack on a few more years to his contract or bump his salary. They supposedly increased some funds to make improvements. That's about it.

If he wants more money he can get it st TCU. If he wants a change of scenery he can get that also at TCU

I doubt he stays because if he does he will for the first time in the past 8 years be working for an athletic director that will probably tell him to make some changes.

Dixon is really burning some bridges right now. He better hope that the TCU deal works out. Barnes does not impress me as a guy who will look kindly on a coach who is constantly dancing with other teams.

The admin might like him and prefer to keep and work with him, but his not coming out and definitely putting this to rest out front will only further serve to alienate the fan base from him.

He has to know that, you would think he would know that ...

If he were to return and not perform very well next year, markedly better than this year at the very least, fans will excoriate him.

But he isn't. "All I have to do is pick the right Powerball numbers". But I am not. Your view of these things is overly simplistic.

This thought crossed my mind as to why TCU is leaking pretty much everything. Force his hand a little bit.

I was wondering that. But Jamie still has control. He could have told them, "this all has to stay quiet until we agree. If you leak it out, then this is done, and I will deny interest."

I wasn't aware Jamie made this public, which is the basis for this post. You are assuming Jamie made this public when in reality if TCU is making such a big play it was almost certainly leaked from their end.

If Dixon is trying to lower the buyout then he has shown his loyalty and it would be to TCU.
You can't get a 10 year deal with significant raises, take the money and then ask your employer to take less money so your new employer can pay you more when you take the other job.
That should piss off anyone.

Why lower anything!
If I was negociating for PITT I would tell TCU you want him you buy him ( salary) + his buyout.
Let Dixon "kickback" some of his raise toward the buyout.
In the end we might have to bend a bit but I would get every $ we can in this transaction.
TCU has the money and so does Dixon!
This isnt Kolhs 50% off day we sell our coaches at full price!

That wasn't the point of my post...I was trying (perhaps not skillfully) to show that if JD is working Pitt to lower the buyout, then he has already shown that his loyalty is to TCU and not Pitt.
But to your point, if Pitt really wants JD to go, then they might want to sweeten the pot by lowering the buyout.
I don't have a clue what barnes wants to do.

If I was negociating with Pitt I'd learn how to spell negotiate.

I get it thanks for clarifying.
On the other hand sounds like TCU a cash rich U wants him so lets play hard ball for as long as we can and max this transaction out!
In the end yes some compromise number will be the bingo!

i have to admit, I am getting a bit greedy myself as I look at the buyout I will have to pay to get who i want is going to play a part in this poker game.
i certainly don't want to lose money in the buyout sweepstakes that is for sure.
