Austin Cooley wins National Prep championship.

I wrote this back in November

Austin Cooley won The Mat Town Open at LHU Nov 25th

First round beat a Balkin from Columbia 8-3. Balkin was 10-15 last year as a sophomore.

Second round Pinned Murphy from Bloomsburg at 4:15. Murphy is a sophomore and was 15-18 last year.

In the finals he beat Wustefeld also out of Columbia, 3-2. Wustefeld is a freshman but was a two time NJ state finalist.

Maybe these guys are not ranked opponents but still an impressive performance for a high schooler - particularly in an upper weight.

He looks strong, a good athlete, and does not back down. Still raw on offensive technique and makes some basic positioning mistakes but man...can see some real potential in that kid.

He will be a good partner for the current upper weights and then turn, him loose in 2020.

Got to get another RTC guy for Nino, Kellan, McGill and Cooley. Pitt is not going to be sneaking up on anyone in another year or two.

I have not seen Colton very much and I don't know his personality, but the few times I have watched him, his physical skills certainly seem capable. His technique needs to mature a lot. Of course he needs to find a spot in the line up first. Unless he grows to get to 149 or 157, that might be his biggest challenge /sarc/.
