I loved BK as a player, but it would be an awful hire. The guy isn’t even the top assistant at Rutgers. He has no head coaching experience and the downward trend of Pitt basketball had him in the role of top assistant under Dixon.

I would sign him tomorrow if it wasn’t overly generous of a contract. I agree that it’s somewhat risky but it’s worth a shot compared to what we have right now

I’ll repeat what I’ve said previously. If he’s head coach material why hasn’t he gotten a job somewhere? Other than a semi courtesy interview for the Pitt job I’m not even sure he’s even been interviewed. It’s one thing not to land a job but unless I’m missing something nobody else has even taken a sniff.

Does that mean he’d fail here? Not necessarily but if Pitt hired an assistant whose experience was relatively the same as Knight’s this board would be in full meltdown. Would make the night the Stallings news broke seem tame by comparison.

The only reason anyone wants him when it comes down to it is that he’s a “Pitt guy”. And that’s no reason to hire someone as a head coach.

The guy can’t get a HC job anywhere, but somehow people think it is a good idea to hire him because he was a good player here. It would bury this program until 2030 at the earliest.

Yeah maybe you’re right. I just find it hard to believe it could get any worse than it is right now. And at least knight would be cheap if we need to spend on a big buyout

Got it.

Jeff Capel Is completely absolved for blame for THIS failure, It is all on Milan Brown.

Exactly same as Jamie completely absolved for THAT failure, it is all on Brandin Knight.

Ask theSpecialSauce. He blames Brandin for Pitt’s downfall (down trend).
You’re being ridiculous.

The head coach is always the most responsible and I’m sure he’d agree. But if his assistants suck they deserve some blame. And ultimately it’s on the head coach to get rid of crappy assistants so I get that too. But everyone has a role. He was just pointing out that Knight was likely part of the problem.

Yet Coach Marion is destined to be a coaching superstar.

Based on exactly what?

As far as I can see it is based on talk (self promotion).

I will talk Brandin and his character over Coach Marion and his talk when deciding to give someone a chance with a less than impressive resume.

This is a basketball discussion board about Pitt’s next head basketball coach. There is a HUGE difference between an assistant football coach and the head basketball coach.

How exactly do you know BK’s character behind closed doors?

When we consider resumes, when only consider them for Head Coaching positions? Resumes play no part in deciding on coordinators?

You know something about Brandin’s character behind closed doors? Impressive.

What’s interesting is how there was some scuttlebutt that Knight wanted to get his hands dirty and was held back. Whether or not that’s true I haven’t a clue. But that seemed to be a pretty persistent theme for a while.

That would clearly endear him to some on this board.

People are advocating for a possible disaster as well with more emotional implications than usual.

Not only does he not have the resume.
If this goes wrong. Which is high probility. You're then possibly dealing with nightmare scenario of having to fire an alma mater hero. Which happens... but stings much more.

The cons way outweigh the pros for me because failure probability seems high to me.

Get him on staff again. Pay his dues.
Aren't there other Pitt players moving up the coaching ranks faster than BK?

Yes, Ricky Greer rose up the ranks super fast while Brandin has stayed at the same level. Greer is the Associate Head Coach at Dayton which is a higher level than Knight being 3rd chair at a mid-level and historically terrible B10 team. Not saying Greer is ready but his rise is something that impresses you.

Sauce is dialed in and can vouch for him. You may want to sit this one out since he has some close to the vest inside info.

Man, there are a lot of people on this board that are dialed in.

This is my long time doctor. Do you think he might be dialed in?

So Sauce knows somebody, You know somebody, I know somebody, Pittzap knows somebody., DT knows somebody, Harve knew somebody…

Anyone else want to announce they know somebody?

People would much rather argue they know what is behind the curtain than argue on the merits.

I can say I know no one with inside information. 😂

The less desperate person has the upper hand in contract negotiations.

Can you think of many coaches that will be more desperate than Lyke?

BK would be more desperate than Lyke. BK would also fill a lot of the needs that make Lyke so desperate.

BK whiffed on his share of recruits during his coaching tenure here. Ever hear of Omari Spellman?? So don't berate us "in the know" guys since you'll lose that battle. Move along now

In the know?

Living the good life (vicariously)

Could Myles Davis have been admitted to Pitt with freshman eligibility and played?

Similar situation?

I am actively in the process of trying to know less people.
