Maybe he can make mention of how Franklin is failing in the recruiting wars this year. He just had two of his offensive lineman decommit. He has lost out on several other big name recruits he was expected to get. Meanwhile, Narduzzi, while not landing any 4 stars yet, is getting some solid recruits with fair to even good offer sheets. Slick talkin' Jimmy's days will be numbered up there if they have an average season, which is a real possibility.

The irony of this is that Bob Smizik had been a sports writer for the Pitt News, and folks on here complained about his comments on Pitt. Blaming "the media" has become an all-purpose excuse for just about everything.
Winning is the best remedy for bad / negative coverage.
We're our own worst enemy in that regard.
If Pitt were wildly successful, local media would have to grit their dentures and write glowingly. No matter where they graduated from.
It's proven true that middling success for Pitt will get buried or minimized by Micco, etc. And they amp up negatives for Pitt and glorify dubious success (chick volleyball etc.) of their favorite school.
Or most egregious, gleefully bury horrific stories like Sandusky's rapes, Franklin's role in the Vandy rapes etc.
But even they couldn't deny or minimize Steelers or Penguins levels of success if Pitt achieved that. Because we'd be popular with the masses, who don't tolerate negativity of their favorite teams.
Win, and history will be written in your favor. Even if it Satan is the writer.

pitt could win 12 games and the media would talk about letang and kessel's trade value.. yesterday's talk shows were talking about ollie matta for crying out loud. you know how desperate you have to be for interesting content when you have a segment focused on ollie freakin matta trade?
Id rather hear a talk show with Joe buck talking about Brooks Koepka's tight white pants than hear local clowns talk about ollie matta in june.. Talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel, looking for a topic to discuss..

all I want is for pitt to have a beat writer and someone to do pre game shows before our football and basketball games who doesnt HATE pitt. that's all im asking. I don't even need a fan of the program, that's asking way too much.
Just give me someone, anyone, who doesn't actually DISLIKE pitt to do our pre games and cover the team. I really don't think that's asking too much. Some 23 year old kid from texas who needs a job, how bout him?

ESPN needs to get out in front of this idea -- The "Dad Olympics". Games that guys with beer guts can play. Whatever this game is, corn hole, horse shoes, mini golf, I guess real golf, duck pin bowling...I can go on and on. They could get a huge endorsement from that company that sells testosterone and keeps Frank Thomas employed.
We literally JUST had Brian Batko who is a Pitt alum from Shaler. He was good and no one complained about him at all.

My first thought after reading your post was of the, "Man Show" with their show ending, "Girls on Trampolines".
I almost never tune in to ESPN but that doesn't surprise me. I forgot about washers but that's an excellent replacement.
These mini golf games are actually entertaining. Corn hole on tv is as bad as it sounds.
Watching grown men play cornhole without drinking beer is a travesty beyond words.
I remember the mini golf games they ran back in the early days. No idea they still did that but I guess they have a lot of space to fill.

If I were to use the national media outside of sports as a barometer for that kind of statement as an analogy I would call it wildly incorrect...
Hate is hate and I know if I were hired to cover PSU I would never cease with the snarkiness and never write glowingly about their exploits, would you?
You'd think they could be more selective than hiring someone from a tiny daily newspaper.
You might not resist, but you wouldn't last long in the job if large numbers dropped subscriptions over it.
I agree the PSU writers covering us do hate us, and relish writing negativity as a result. But if the negativity is based on facts (aka that we stink), and nobody cares or protests that he writes it (aka because teams that stink aren't popular), then he ... or you in the opposite scenario... is free to go on doing it.
If we were the level of Bama or Clemson or OSU, or even just PSU (moderately successful), enough faithful would chaff at the snarky negativity and would complain and threaten to drop subscriptions. Then he ... or you in the opposite scenario... would be ordered to swallow the bile and gush, like the media do for the Steelers, Pens and Pen State.
Unless a journalist grew up here, most aren't going to love the Steelers and gush over them, naturally. Heck, guys who grew up elsewhere are likely to privately hate the steelers. But since they're popular, the weasel journalists have to fake it. They'd have to do that for us, too.
Well, I doubt dying daily newspapers have as much competition for their open positions these days. The CDT is tiny, but it does cover PSU football heavily so at least their beat writers (the few that are left) have experience covering big-time football.
