Barnes and Gallagher

Even if he goes it won't necessarily mean they didn't fight to keep him. If the money gets absurd there will be a point at which Pitt won't be able to do much about it. If it comes to that LSU is just in different stratosphere.

I see it both ways, I want to see the commitment from Pitt, but there is a dollar amount that does not make sense for Pitt to go above$850000 as that would make him the 4th highest paid assistant in the ACC, and I stated before Pitt should try to stay in the top 25% of the ACC.

Also, if he had a few seasons at Pitt with success, that would be different. He has been with Pitt for one season, and it was a great one, but was one year removed from essentially be let go by NC State. I think we should give him a raise, but not a ridiculous amount.

So Pitt should give Canada $1.5million per year? LSU could likely pay that.

Abolsolutely. Matt Canada is possibly the best OC in college football and how many times. You match everything LSU offers. Everything. Canada still may leave but at least it shows the fanbase and Narduzzi they are committed.

Lets say Canada stays for $1.5 million. The alternative is hiring lesss of a sure thing for say $600K. To me, Canada is worth the extra $900K. He might be the difference between in 2 or 3 wins per year. Heck, without him this year, we may have gone 4-8.

Yes, it's called ROI. You pay the extra million because it will lead to great things for this offense. Offense staying anywhere near this pace, the defense catching up in a year or two...the stadium will be full and it will be easy to recover that million. Like I always tell the guys at work. You gotta spend money to make money. It's the cost of business.

Gallager committed to winning football at Pitt....and the excitement level has only increased since the hire of Narduzzi.

Included in this is financial support from big boosters who were completely turned off by Pederson.

it would seem to me....that there are some heavy hitting boosters out there that may be heard from regarding Canada.

Yes. A championship caliber program would do just that.

If we wave the white flag and let LSU take our guy because LSU is too big and scary to compete with then we are small time.

My understanding from Gallagher and Barnes was that it was their intention to make Pitt a nationally relevant program again. You don't do that by allowing yourself to be LSU's bitch.

If Canada is worth fighting for then you have to pay him big program money.

I can understand if Canada was being lured by a HC opportunity, but to lose him to the same job at another school is what happens to little brother programs.

You guys sound like Bob Nutting. Does Pitt want to be a big time program and compete for championships or are they content to let the big boys steal their lunch all the time?

And are you going to be stepping up like lsu and other big schools and donating thousands to get it done? that's how it works in college athletics.

Then open up your checkbook. it will help pitt significantly to get to that level.

I was t to see Pitt pony up and keep him, I just think if the price gets a million + that Pitt will bow out. My realistic attitude tells me Pitt should pay I the top 25% of the ACC. That is realistic, we do t have the resources currently to compete with the big boys yet. Maybe one day yes but currently no we do not.

LOL! I've went from seeing Canada go from being a trash bin retread hire that "proves" that Pitt is not serious about CFB to now seeing him be that "MUST KEEP" coach that will prove that Pitt is not serious about CFB if he jets to LSU. It only took about 13 weeks for this transformation to take place.

I have no doubt in my mind that Pitt put their money where their mouth is to try to keep the guy. If he stays, then great. If he leaves, then that's life. There is a difference between showing a financial commitment to be relevant financially vs stupidly throwing money at a coach because he caught lightning in a bottle. I'm most worried about losing the head coach. As long as Narduzzi sticks with Pitt for the long term - then the rest will fall into place. Narduzzi proved that he can hire good coaches. So if Canada leaves, then he'll hire someone solid as a replacement. Except for OC, the continuity with this staff has been very good.

Let's step back from the ledge folks... Besides, I wouldn't trade my Pitt education for an LSU one anyways. YES, I get it that you can do both...

Even if they double his salary, I'm guessing Pitt still only maybe a bit higher than 7th in ACC in total asst salaries. The top 6 are near 3m or higher.

This whole thing is funny. That the whole problem is that Pitts athletic department is swimming with money and they're holding out on paying the OC.

As if it's that simple.
I mean, if it was, they're be no movement in college sports.

Wisconsin was in the same boat last year. Lost their DC to Lsu.
So tell me, what does Pitt have that Wisconsin - and a whole lot of other schools - don't have to prevent this sort of thing from happening?

I'm not enamored with this administration they way most others here are, but I think they are doing what they can.
And frankly, should he leave - regardless of it being a better job - I think it's real crappy of Canada to do so after one season when Narduzzi threw him a lifeline.

Great post.

Make a statement to the fans and give Canada a million a year or whatever it takes to keep him. It's on you two to make it work and show us that things are different.

Look at Canada's resume. He is a job hopper. it is what it is, I know people like that . nothing you can do

But is it your money?

This isn't pro baseball where the owner bought the Pirates for $95,000,000 and now it is worth $650,000,000 but won't spend $ on good players. Financial support from fans is important if you want to pay bigger salaries for coaches in college football. Those of you complaining have nothing to stand on unless you chip into the pot.

Everyone wants a Cadillac and no one wants the monthly payment or insurance costs.

"Durrr we get the script back and I'll ..." its back.

"We get rid of Steve Pederson and..." he gone.

"We start winning again and..." we've been ranked in the top 25 the past two years.

Face it: we have a fanbase that is cheap and lazy.

Exactly - they are always making excuses.
