Looks like they are playing at a minor league field ....

nice field.

Pitt 6 YSU 5, end of 4 innings .....

Pitt can't afford to lose this game ..... YSU is bad !

Pitt 6 YSU 6, end of 5 innings ......

Roche threw out a YSU runner at the plate to end the 5th inning after a single to RF.

Pitt doesn't score in the 6th ...... 6-6 going to the bottom of the 6th*

nm

Interesting play in the top of the 6th .........

Vazquez was batting for Pitt with a runner on 1st and two outs ...... Vazquez was hit with a pitch but the umpire ruled that he did not try to avoid the pitch and so Vazquez had to keep batting eventually popping out to the 1B in foul territory..... instead of runners on 1st and 2nd with two outs and Roche coming to bat, the inning was over.

Pitt 6 YSU 6, end of 6 innings .......

Pitt had a double play in the inning.

Through top of 7th, no hits for Pitt in last 4 innings......

keep doing the score, I just checked in and am leaving again. We need to wake up against this 3-17 team!!!!!

YSU had a left hander who pitched a couple innings in relief ......

that was pretty good.

Pitt in trouble in the bottom of the 7th ......

lead off double for YSU, then a bunt single put runners on 1st and 3rd .... a wild pitch then scored a run for YSU and moved the man on 1st to 2nd with no outs ..... Dian coming in relief for Curtis who was not very sharp today.

Dian struck out the next batter .........

then got a groundout to 2B ... runner moved to 3rd with two outs .... then he struck out the next batter to end the inning !

Frabasilio struck out to lead off the 8th for Pitt ........

then Johnson was out trying to bunt for a hit ..... 2 outs and none on for Pitt in the 8th.

Parry pops out in foul territory to the first baseman ....

to end the 8th for the Panthers ..... 3 up and 3 down ..... 7-6 YSU going to the bottom of the 8th.

YSU 7 Pitt 6, end of 8 innings ......

3 up and 3 down for YSU in the 8th.

Pitt coming to bat in the top of the 9th down 7-6 .....

do or die for Pitt ...... a loss to YSU would be embarrassing and a very, very, very bad loss !

Vranka strikes out to lead off the 9th for Pitt .....

chased a high fast ball and missed.

Wolsonovich strikes out .... 2 outs and none on for Pitt ....

Vazquez coming to bat .... we need a bloop and a blast !

Vazquez walks ...... man on 1st with two outs .... Roche batting*

nm

Roche strikes out .... Pitt loses 7-6 .....

YSU pitcher struck out the side in the 9th.

Re: Vazquez walks ...... man on 1st with two outs .... Roche batting*

Am I the only one who thinks maybe we shouldn't schedule YSU in anything any more? Yikes.

YSU 7 Pitt 6, FINAL ......

TERRIBLE LOSS BY PITT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We better wake up or Virginia will murder us this weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We beat them 12-1 earlier this season and we play them again in April ...... I hope we were looking ahead to Virginia.

Terrible, terrible, terrible loss

To a terrible team. This team doesn't seem to get up for or play well in mid week games.

There are 302 Div 1 baseball teams, YSU was #281--and we LOST!!! ***

Same story as prior years, Pitt's RPI gets destroyed in mid-week games

RPI now above 100.

Didn't fall as far as I thought

It was 91 before the Hoopie loss and didn't expect much drop there, and they only fell to 92, but now at 105, so they dropped 13 places after the Penguin debacle (#281 before the win). A win or two against UVA will do wonders.

Do the mid-week losses point out our lack of depth, which will hopefully improve with full scholarships now? But we aren't exactly playing the 1927 NY Yankees mid-week either, so what gives? Lack of motivation from the coaching staff? Or just looking ahead too much to playing the #1 team in America?

Re: Didn't fall as far as I thought

A couple of things...

1. The game was played at Eastwood Field, home of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, affiliates of the Cleveland Indians. It's a nice field and for those who live in the Pittsburgh suburbs to the North, South and West, it's actually your closest affiliated minor league team (closer than Erie and Altoona).

2. Youngstown State on Tuesday played Penn State and Penn State beat them 15-2. PSU is not very good despite their record.

Terrible loss, but looking forward to seeing how they do against UVA this weekend.

Upsets are more possible in baseball (at any level) more than any other sport. That's just the way baseball is. Pitt is simply not good enough to just show up and beat a bad D1 team. If we dont play well, we can lose. Contrast this with Pitt bball. Pitt bball can play its worst game of the year and beat the #281 bball team by 10-15 points. So, its a combination of Pitt just not being that good and the nature of the game of baseball where you can crush the ball all afternoon but right at people and then the other team gets a couple infield hits, some bloopers, and end up with more runs.

You need good 4th and 5th starters for your midweek games which Pitt hasnt had recently, partly because of funding, but I'd ask how good are YSU's hitter and are they even fully funded? What about that horrible Coppin State loss last year that I believe kept us out of the NCAA Tournament. Did Coppin State have an ace 4th starter? I doubt it.
