Kind of a shame that the Gameday crew is not at Heinz covering the best match up of the day steeped in history in favor of the made for tv (160,000 fans, 343,621.25 total teeth) snoozer of a game at some racetrack. I guess until they bring the elephants back this will be the best the circus crowd will have to offer.

I don't get why people don't understand why Gameday is at Bristol. It's a special one-off event that will welcome the largest crowd in American team sports history. The combination of the NASCAR and college football atmospheres will create a pretty neat environment. I don't even like NASCAR, nor would I likely care much about a VT/UT game played on campus, but I am excited to watch this game and most college FB fans are too. It's an event. Pitt/PSU is a game and there will be a 1,000 other's like it all season long.

like I said, made for tv circus. You are intrigued by a game with a 12 point spread because it is at a racetrack? Barnum was right I guess. Best game/matchup of the weekend is Pitt/Penn State. It just is and there is only one (not 1,000) of those per week in college football. .

I actually believe even if Tennessee had lost, Gameday would still have gone to Bristol. It's an event and, unfortunately, Pitt/PSU just isn't appetizing enough. Now, if both Pitt and PSU were currently ranked? Maybe...

this. look people, our game isn't as big as some on here believe. were a 12 noon start, that is telling...
the game is huge for us, not so much for the rest of the country. the powers at be didn't put our game on primetime, its for a reason.

While I agree, the noon start has everything to do the Pirates. I very much doubt this one is a noon start if the Pirates are away. If they were away, I don't doubt this game starts at 3:30PM or later.

Drive fast and turn left.. Nascar is brutal but rednecks love it.. I used to have a friend that not only loved watching it but would listen to it on the radio. You think watching it is bad, listening to it is beyond painful. I actually went to Daytona 500 one year, the tailgate was fun, girls were incredible and the race was really exciting, for 25 minutes.. No kidding, watching it live was really cool, then it got really boring.

Just a thought. Considering all the signs displayed on Gameday, would ESPN be concerned about what might appear on screen? Most of those signs are funny, but signs about rape and pedophiles wouldn't be.

You are excited for a game with a 6 point spread between two teams who are unranked and haven't won anything of relevance in years. The game is an 11am start. Most people don't really care about our game, even if it might be the best game/matchup during an absolutely putrid week of football. We do. That doesn't make it nationally relevant. Many people won't even realize it is happening because it won't pull up on the "Top 25" Scoreboards.

money talks. in the battle of bristol, VT is getting 4M to play in this game. Tenn is getting 4M to play in this game.

just follow the money...

Cannot be any worse than the kid with the "I wanna Bohn Linda Kohn" sign the last time gameday was in Pittsburgh...classic!

That game in Bristol is a gimmick.

The one thing that makes GameDay such a great show is that they broadcast it from campus. Two straight weeks they're airing from a money-making neutral site.

I also think doing Gameday from Bristol is no-brainer. Largest American football crowd, two fairly well known programs, VT's first big test of the Fuente era, Vols are SEC East favorites... There is just a lot more interest in this game nationally.

Pitt & PSU are two programs that have struggled for several years and both would appear to be at least a couple of years away from having a chance of a breakout type of season.

NASCAR needs the publicity, their ratings are in a literal freefall the last 5 or so years.

This game is about 12 years or so in the making. Bristol has pushed for this game for a very long time. VaTech was all for it from the beginning, but Tennessee had issues with giving up a home game.

If they really wanted a ratings boost, have a race and football game at the same time.

Bristol is a unique place and I certainly understand why Gameday is there. Bristol is literally a town divided in 2. One side of the street is VA, the other is Tennessee. It has nothing to do with NASCAR. 160K for a college game is a huge event. It is for bragging rights between two states

Yeah I don't think this game has anything to do with NASCAR one bit. It's just that if you are trying to hold an event with over 150,000 in this country it requires a NASCAR venue. That is a gorgeous part of the country. I always enjoy driving through that region, even up into Southern WV. Such beautiful scenery.
