Ben Affleck Top Of His Game, Live By Night & Accountant!

The Accountant was a very pleasant surprise. Haven't been motivated to see Live by Night but based on your review, maybe we will. Have you seen La La Land yet?

If you love movies and in particular the ones that are critically well received then I believe you would like La La Land. It is a story about being stubborn and sticking to what you believe in. Its a musical that didn't always feel like a musical. I read that Emma Watson was originally supposed to play the role that Emma Stone got but cannot imagine anyone but Emma Stone in it. I thought it was really good.

I struggle with any interest in Live by Night because Ben Affleck looks like he is wearing his Dad's work suit playing cops and robbers. I prefer Ben behind the camera instead of in front of it.

I would suggest learning the facts before speaking but really what's the point...

Hillary Clinton outpaced President-elect Donald Trump by almost 2.9 million votes, with 65,844,954 (48.2%) to his 62,979,879 (46.1%), according to revised and certified final election results from all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

It's funny, you'd think that someone involved in politics for 40 years would have known the criteria that is used to judge the winner of the office that they were seeking...

Great post. In general I love good films - all genre's (although horror movies do nothing for me) and all actors. I don't have a lot of patience for movies not done well, but I've also found that some poorly reviewed releases can surprise me with their entertainment value (The Accountant is a good example). I oftentimes will check the audience score on Rotten Tomatoes for clarity.

Having said that I have avoided movies that I know touch a nerve for me even if they are nominated for an Oscar. I remember in particular one movie a few years back that had some scenes of child abuse. And I absolutely avoid any movies with animal abuse. I'm one of those people who can't shake the visuals easily and it can keep me awake at night.

FYI - 1000% agree about Stone AND Gosling in La La Land. I could not imagine any other of their contemporaries in those roles. That's when you know it's a job well done.

Hidden Figures is a good Sunday afternoon movie to watch with kids.

I would think that someone running for President, as well as his supporters, would realize that finishing in second place with the actual voters did not constitute a "landslide victory."

But I would be wrong.

No disagreement there

Watched LaLa Land tonight and had to bring this post back. I don't do musicals but after the first 15 mins it's barely a musical. Absolutely loved it fantastic movie. Emma Stone is great, so relatable and right amount of goofy can't picture anyone else. And Gosling still is my dude crush I guess what a charmer.

I saw the accountant the other night. Above average. I liked ben's performance but the movie required serious suspension of belief. The hotel scene with the girl didn't work at all for me as she was a math nerd and was almost killed but was just like "oh. Ok." And moved on...

Really liked he'll and high water but I wouldn't rank that near the best of all time like I saw some rank it

Not sure if serious about what's in bold there. But, yeah, hell of a movie. Lotta similarities in tone to No Country For Old Men.

Finally got around to seeing The Hunt For The Wilderpeople. Outstanding. One of my favorite 2016 releases that I've seen. Still gotta get on Train To Busan, Elle, Florence Foster Jenkins, Handmaiden, Age Of Shadows, Nocturnal Animals, A Monster Calls, Moonlight, Hidden Figures, Paterson, Toni Eardmann, Jackie, Silence, Tickled, The Eyes Of My Mother and Raw (Grave). Just caught I Am Not A Serial Killer which was... Good enough. I liked it better than the Autopsy Of Jane Doe at least.

Stand outs for me in 2016 were Nice Guys, The Witch, Lobster, Arrival, Zootopia, Jungle Book, Neon Demon, Sing Street, Green Room, Kubo, OJ Made In America, Lo and Behold, 13th and Midnight Special. Oh, yeah, Hunt for the Wilderpeople. That one might just be my favorite so far. Manchester by the Sea was great too but I didn't like it as much as these. Liked Pete's Dragon and BFG a good deal as well.

Liked A LOT about La La Land. But, sheesh, the two leads were incredibly thin and unlikable. Not the acting, the characters. Just whiny, self-absorbed and pretty dull.

Hated the witch. Wasn't nerve wracking or suspenseful at all.

Old country for old Men and hell and high water are good comparisons.

I haven't seen a movie in a while where I was completely blown away with it to the point I would add it to my personal all time list

I saw Live By Night last week. Having read the book and listened to the audio book while driving to and from Pittsburgh, I was very disappointed. They took a fairly good crime story and turned it into a formulaic mob "shoot-out".
Can't say that I didn't enjoy the film (although it became tedious). It was OK entertainment but not of the quality I expected. Box office receipts have also been a big disappointment.
