Was he a splash hire when he was hired in the 90's? We need a good recruiter and coach that will get us back to a Top 20 program, and that is the only thing that matters.

Barnes was just on 93.7 and said he is looking to hire a coach who runs an up-tempo offense with good defense.
Dunlap mention Krystkowiak @ Utah. I like him, he runs a high scoring offense, but I know nothing about his defense.
Also, Howland was the absolute best we could do back in '98 when the program was in the dumpster. Not saying he wasn't great, but he was a bit of an unknown and a risk when hired. I think we should be looking for someone from a bigger conference this time.

Saw a bunch of Pac12 games this year when on business in the Mountain Time Zone, he's solid.
I don't think he's a fit based on what Barnes wants though. Historically (including this year) his teams have played very slow, defense was "eh" despite having Poeltl, and I think Utah was a little overseeded due to the Pac12 manipulating the RPI so much.
I do not think he would be a bad hire but I don't see what Barnes is looking for in him.
