S Werner says Bertke is also transferring. I like both moves by this staff. Replacing Bertke and Davidson with likely and confidently, more talented players. This is the steady building of a program. Remove the players that won't ever crack the two deep and sign more talented kids.

The staff has truly done a great job off reshaping the roster in just two off seasons. Come fall, we will be far deeper and more skilled than two years ago.

The writing is on the wall, we offered 5 qbs this week and are pushing Bertke out at the same time.

i'm not surprised a bit that he is transferring.

canada swung and missed on his top targets. since then he's offered quite a few, he needs to close on the remaining top guys on their board.

To be fair to Chryst, his recruiting was sub-par on the defensive side of the ball, but was pretty good offensively, particularly in building our Oline, and bringing in good RBs, including Conner, Ibrahim, Ollison, and James (a 4 star guy who fell behind the others). And his recruiting challenge was tough, since he was a first time head coach taking over a program still in the BE, coming off a lot of player and coaching turnover.

Both of these transfers are on the offensive side of the ball, and Davidson was behind other Chryst recruits, including Ford, Challingsworth, and Weah.

amazing how we all worry about us getting to 85 and every year, we do.. I include myself in on this btw..

We have no shortage of options to free up those last ships needed. Easy decisions to be made or will be made for the coaches by those leaving to go down a level and transfer on their own.

He has the size but it seems like both coaching staffs were underwhelmed with his off season effort. Wish him the best

I know it's a tough business, yadda-yadda-yadda.....but I still feel badly every time that a kid leaves under these circumstances. After all, it wasn't that long ago that we were welcoming these young men and were glad that they wanted to play for Pitt.

Me too, but can't be avoided if Pitt can't even at least make it 2 years in a row with the same staff.

I want the players here that give Pitt the best chance to win...and others should politely get the hint and nudge that maybe they are not cut out for FBS football. Most HS players are not and many dont find that out until they get into a program.

To be clear, these kids aren't forced out. The coaches make clear where they stand and if they want to play they know it is going to have to be some place else. And these kids generally do want to play.

I think what he's saying is ...... one minute we're happy to have them. (recruits) Then the next minute we're happy to see them go. So we can bring in the "new guy."

That's the way the world should work! Get the best you can get and let the rest go elsewhere!

All true. But the other issues are that the kid: (1) knows he doesn't fit into Pitt's plans; (2) is using a scholarship that the coaches don't really want to give; and (3) isn't wanted anymore.

I don't know about you, but I never want to be where I'm not wanted. So while they're not being "forced out", they know where they stand with everyone, and it's not where many people would want to be.

I'd say for the most part that's the way the world DOES work. The sooner the lesson is learned that you are merely a commodity, whether that be as a collegiate football player or an employee, the faster you can shake off the pixie dust and join the real world.

Its up to the individual to make themselves into a specialty item rather than being a commodity like lots of others. In other words get really good at a few things not just one so you always have plan b. and c.
