Bfo8 ...Not everybody glowing in Tigers win

article on ESPN that Books took bath.....l.

Thoughts?
Good!
It's called Risk vs Reward a "formula" that makes or breaks people and organizations.

If they don't like the wild ride buy CD's or bonds and don't be the book.

I remember back in the 70's, in NJ, when sports gambling wasn't legal, if you didn't pay up right away, the black caddie appeared outside the house, including two guys in black suits and they weren't airport limo drivers.

I know it was a bad result for me, had Finau and Schauffele at nice prices, just couldn’t get there.

Tiger is always going to take in a lot of money, hence his low opening price. I wouldn’t feel too bad for the books, the Masters handle is so big and there are so many props that they will do ok no matter what they claim.

I'm always reading on various message boards how the books are so smart, and the average fan is an idiot. Obviously the books know more, but it's nice to see them take the occasional beating. I've always enjoyed seeing an old legend shine late in the game. Especially after father time has humbled him a bit. George Foreman in 94, Jimmy Connors at the 91 Open, Jack at the 86 Masters, and Federer the last few years.

I also had Finau along with Rahm and a couple others. Rahm just had a nothing Saturday or he might've been right there.

Read an article about a Canadian guy who had won a free bet of $20 C, about $15 US. He did a three-bet parlay of Kyler Murray to win the Heisman, the Rams to win the NFC and Matsuyama to win the Masters. He was set up to win about $100k if Matsuyama won. It's be hard to pick one guy to win the Masters but someone like Tiger might be one someone would pick on a whimsical bet like that simply because of his popularity.

I don’t bet and I don’t hate Tiger. What I do hate is the inordinate slobbering I am going to have to endure from the media about this win.
Well, in the golf world, it is a huge story.
Substitute another name, and if that guy did what Tiger did, it would still be a big story.
The fact that the guy who had golf on his back and single handedly increased the payouts and interest in the game got back in the major win column is huge.
Tiger revolutionized golf from a upper crust, paunchy walk around to a true athletic endeavor. Look at these young guys. They are athletes.
Now he's back in the hunt to catch Niklaus for most major victories ever.
Like it or not, if he continues to play well, you're going to be seeing and hearing a lot about him.

My friend just said the exact same thing.....
He has his XM radio set on ESPN...

To me this was a historic day like few others...
Haven’t felt like this watching golf since 86 w Jack.
Wow just wow.

These young guns who are bigger , longer , stronger and in better shape.

Tiger beat their ass.
He let them know why he has 5 / 15 and they have nothing closev

Could not agree more.

It's good business for the sports books to pretend they took a beating once in a while. Makes people think they can win, too.

This is absolutely true. They all talked about losing money on their Masters futures book, but left out the part about getting a decent portion of that back with the myriad of props that were offered.

I’ll add one final postscript to this, also not mentioned is the millions of dollars the books took in over the last decade on Tiger Woods to win in the Majors. There were many of them where he literally had no chance to win but people continued to bet him in droves just because of who he was. Pretty much every single book over the last decade won with their future book on every single Major event because of it.

Tiger’s win, was a win-win for golf also.
There a group of young guns, that can dominate, but they just don’t attract people to the game, like Tiger does. The whole golf industry is smiling this week.

Tiger played great golf and put golf on the map when he was in his prime!
He was also a bit of a "novelty" in the beginning being one of the first black golf super-stars.
He came from a middle class background with a military father who a lot of people identified with.

When Tiger's golf went South he stayed on the front pages doing all kinds of stuff that would end the career of most athletes especially golfers.

It's a career killer today to do the off the golf course stuff that Tiger did but Tiger survived all of it and it keep him in the news.

The new golf stars just have golf to get them on the front pages!

Nike stuck with Tiger through the drugs, orgies, women, more women, alcohol, Tiger stuffing Duffner's wife Amanda which the world knew about, Tiger chasing other golf wives like Will McKenzie's wife while he was rehabbing in Jupiter Fl, Tiger hustling waitresses from IHOP, and Denny's, the five iron beat down to the head, Lindsey Vonn's Tiger tooth knock-out when she found out about Tigers escapades while she was skiing the World Cup circuit.

All this stuff kept Tiger on the front page and didn't kill his career. Nike sold TIger stuff throughout the entire ordeal.

All this stuff kept Tiger on the front page, without golf and didn't kill his career!
