Iowa has a big lead in the team scores, with 121.5 points after the Semis. They have 4 wrestlers in the finals, including the WPIAL’s Spencer Lee and Michael Kemerer. They have 5 other wrestlers still alive in the consolations.

PSU right now is in 4th place, with 93.5 points. They have 5 wrestlers in the finals. Roman Bravo-Young beat Austin De Santo 3-2 in a key match. Freshman Aaron Brooks has won three one-sided matches. But, PSU only has one other wrestler alive. They went 0-2 at 149, 157 and Hwt. and 1-2 at 125. The only head to head matchup against Iowa is at 174. Very unlikely they can catch, or even come close to Iowa. Also, likely they only will qualify 7 for the NCAAs; possibly as low as 6.

Nebraska is 2nd now and tOSU is third, but they have only 1 and 3 wrestlers in the finals. PSU should pass both unless they get wiped out in the finals. That is very unlikely with Lee and Joseph both #1 in their weight classes and Bravo-Young and Brooks both looking very good.
Latrobe’s Luke Pletcher is alive at 141 and will face Lee. National #1 Seth Gross of Wisconsin lost to #4 Sebastian Rivera of Northwestern at 133, where the Big Ten has the top four ranked wrestlers.

The big story though is that the matches weren’t televised on the Big Ten Network, which only will show the finals. Twitter is swarming with complaints. The same is true of the ACC which is showing talk show repeats and not the early grounds of the ACC tourney tomorrow but is showing the finals. Apparently, Flo Wrestling made a deal with both conferences to get the live broadcast rights. I would expect AD’s offices in both conferences to be bombarded with angry phone calls and letters next week.

Spencer Lee won the title at 125. Sebastian Rivera of Northwestern beat PSU’s Bravo-Young at 133. Luke Pletcher beat PSU’s Lee at 141. That’s two WPIAL wrestlers and a NJ wrestler ending PSU’s title hopes. The TV announcers said they are mathematically eliminated but they haven’t shown the score.

Lugo won at 149 for Iowa. Transfer from Edinboro beat freshman Sammy Sasso from Nazareth.

Marinelli from Iowa beat PSU’s Joseph at 165.

Mark Hall won PSU’s first title at 174. Dominated Michael Kemerer from Iowa. Freshman Aaron Brooks won for PSU at 184. That finishes their tournament. They picked up 41 points in the evening matches but that wasn’t nearly enough to catch Iowa which had a huge lead and picked up 37.
