-The offense looks a little better each game. We are passing it better and moving it better. I'd still like to see some skip passes and ones that just aren't side to side. However, you can see that the guys are finally starting to get it. They are now getting the ball to the guy at the foul line against zone and now we have a few guys that can make some plays in that position. This makes me a little bit more optimistic against the SU zone against a team we must win at least 1 game this year.

-I also like that we are finally starting to share the ball on the break in the last 2 games. I actually believe we overshared a bit when Xavier had a layup and passed back behind his back.

-If the team continues to grow on offense and make a few more shots, this team does have the ability to finish in the middle of the pack or even a little bit above that in the ACC. Right now, IMO, the only guaranteed NCAA teams are Duke, Louisville, Virginia, FSU and NC St. I still think Carolina will make it and unless Anthony doesn't come back, his injury will actually help them later in the year.

-Our defense continues to have a few too many possessions where they lose focus, but I do like the pressure D and also loved how we closed out on shooters in the first half of yesterday's game. Binghamton was moving the ball pretty well around our defense, but there was a huge stretch in the first half that they still couldn't get a great look.

-Our biggest weakness right now is defensive rebounding. We aren't good at boxing out and don't really put a body on anybody. When Champagnie has 10 rebounds and your next highest guy has 4, you still need some serious improvement. If we can grow in this area, it will make our defense even tougher.

-Another thing I like is that we have done a much better job of protecting the ball on offense and limiting the TO's in the last few games. When you have games that are played in the 50's and 60's, and we will likely have a good amount of those, limiting TO's and maximizing possessions will be key.

-When Champagnie doesn't think too much, he is a very good and instinctual player. He just makes plays that a majority of our guys can't make.

-I like the use of Coulibaly this week. He needs more time and can do a little more with the ball than Terrell can. You could see how his lack of game time affected his first few shots yesterday. He was rushed and kind of just threw the ball at the basket on his first 2 attempts. He slowed himself down on his 3rd chance and made a nice move.

-Both Trey and X are now forcing much less and letting the game come to them much better. They had a combined 19 in the first half and only had 3 in the second half. So, they are trusting the other guys to score a bit more and that will greatly help us going forward. We had 7 guys score between 8 and 14 points, so that is really nice balance. If the others can consistently make people pay for laying off them, then it will open things back up for Trey and X.

-It was nice to see Murph finally get it going from 3. I didn't like his next to last attempt, but still was thrilled that he finally hit a few. He did also play a really nice defensive game with 4 steals.

-Toney has really played well the last few games too and when he lets the opportunities come to him, he can be very effective. He just needs to do all of those little things like Jaron used to do and when he does that, he has a nice niche on this team.

-Hamilton really has nice touch from 8-13 feet. He is not a great finisher around the rim and gets blocked too many times because he really does play below the rim on offense.

-I liked Terrell's aggressiveness early in the game yesterday, but he rushed things just a bit too much to make a few baskets. He did show nice athleticism for a big when he made the steal and went in for the dunk. Too bad he got fouled, it would have been nice to see him finish that play.

Everyone must be busy with Christmas - There really wasn't much traffic on the board during or after the game. Thanks for an excellent, comprehensive analysis.

Agree with practically everything.

Wondering what is going on with playing time for the trio of Hamiton, Brown, Coulibaly.

Overall I liked the way they played .
I thought the last 2 games X has started to force things a little too
often and I like that HJC has shown him the bench afterwards.
Brown is always going to drive me crazy he is just too soft.
He let a 6’3 guy block his shot right at the bucket again last
night.

Good stuff John-thanks!

Capel is going to the play high energy guy who is grabbing boards.
Coulibaly looks like someone more likely to try to score than try to rebound.

Looks like he has some post moves and energy. Can be a little wild and don't see a lot of rebounding. Don't think he should be playing more than Hamiton.

No doubt Hamilton, a grad transfer, is the better player at this time and probably will be all season.

However, Coulibaly is a work in progress with potential. He is being taught the college game and is improving gradually. Binghamton was an opportunity to get him needed playing time to work on his game and Capel was taking advantage of it.

This program has a long standing paucity of forwards who can play the game like forwards play the game. Champagne is a real breathe of fresh air.

So you think it was only about playing a player when a weak opponent allowed that opportunity?

If that was it, all well and good, but I thought I heard the announcer last night report Capel saying we would not have won the previous game had Coulibaly not played?

Coulibaly provided energy that game, but I don't remember him being anything special. Maybe sitting gave Hamilton a nudge?

I said in another thread that it's going to be important to get Karim playing time because I think we will need him in the ACC when one of the big guys get in foul trouble. I like Hamilton because he has a nice touch 8 to 10 ft but is it me or did you guys see when he tries to drive he's always off balance and that's the reason why he can't play Above the Rim because he's always stumbling.
For me personally I would love for him to start two of the three big guys only because JC talks about the importance of hitting the boards but when you're playing two 6'6 forwards and don't get me wrong they both rebounded well yesterday but they do struggle against bigger teams which hurts them when they want to get out and run and that's what he would like his team to do according to his interview. If he keeps that same lineup I would rather see Big K start at PF with big Ham at C. IMO
I know there's a lot of you guys that won't agree with that but I'm not a big fan of small ball when you're playing against bigger teams because of the rebounding issues. Imo I think we're going to have a harder time beating Florida State the next game we play them playing small ball in FL.

I wouldn’t make it quite so much a yes and no thing but I do believe it was more an opportunity to get Coulibaly development work than any serious dissatisfaction with Hamilton’s play.

Capel knows that a viable Coulibaly will be needed for quality front court depth later on during the height of the ACC season and over the next couple of seasons so I am confident that when he can afford to do so he will get Coulibaly playing time at other than garbage time.
