That was the ballgame, would have made it 20-10, big swing in momentum. Should have had Ollison in there; but I guess he was in the doghouse. Would have been a good chance for him to exit the doghouse by getting the TD.

Really surprised by how improved UNC defense was, but I think some of that might have been a result of our play calling and getting away from power running with Ollison.

But given we were down 20-3, encouraged to see we still had a chance at the end with the onside kick.

They were giving up 212 rushing YPG--115th out of 127 D1 programs-- until they met Mr. Chaney, who for unknown reasons refused to stick with what was working in the run game. Power running, QB under center, lead back and power running between the tackles with Ollie as the workhorse, a lot of Jaymar Parrish in the I, and James giving some change of pace. What was wrong with that?

Not cute enough. Needs more sweeps with Boyd.

Great question! What in the hell is wrong with that? My guess is it doesn't get to show how much smarter Chaney is than all of us, if the plays actually worked.

Instead, they didn't and he looked rather pedestrian.

Well, I agree... I love having several backs involved and all... but that is when you are winning and/or another back is not doing well. Ollison was gashing NC, and we didnt stay with it.

First possession... 8 freaking minutes, and drove 75 yards. Stick with that... we had them on the ropes.

Also not happy with all the passes to the FB for one yards while they are covered. I imagine that is on Peterman more than Chaney though.

I do think the options are limited as Boyd is about all we have on offense, and lately, Peterman's legs. Which is exactly what we had with Voytik. We had the big turnover with Ford fumbling on the reception of a great pass (which was certainly a catch, but thought they may overturn it since I have seen much worse overturned). I think getting rid of Chaney now would be a mistake and totally unfair. The guy comes in with personal, makes a plan for it all summer, then loses the key part on week 1... then has QB's throwing INTs and strips back things... which was smart, and WORKED. We were 6-1. We dont have a great Oline, we have 3rd string RB starting, and we have one very good receiver.

I really don;t think it's Chaney trying to look like a hero. I wish that was all it was, that would be easy for Duzzi to fix. . Instead, I think it's more Chaney's philosophy about trying to be multiple regardless of the circumstances. he is buried in his play chart all game, spending way too much time peering at that than paying attention to what's happening on the field IMO. Not only do I think Narduzzi needs to get a little more involved with the O, I think we will see him do exactly that in the upcoming weeks. Not calling plays, but getting more involved in what he wants to see generally and in specific situations.

Yes, we should have punched it in there with Ollison after the blocked punt. And as someone pointed out above, UNC came back with a big pass and FG that basically negated our score/momentum.

Worst 3 play drive I've seen in a while. I really think we win that game if we get into the endzone there.

That's how I would expect him to respond. It's how I would expect any good HC to respond.

A smart HC learns to step in and do whatever is necessary to right the ship. He needs to be more involved in all of the little things that he sees are not being handled well and could cost his team a game. Whether it's clock management solutions or decisions about the most effective plays and players which gives the team the best chance to win a game.

The game was lost in the first half when they abandoned the run & started trying to move the ball up field instead of methodically running the ball down UNC's throats. Pitt played right into right into what UNC hoped for...they were a quick strike offense and Pitt giving up the ball really hurt.

We went three and out a couple of times in the first half trying to run the ball on 1st and 2nd downs and that killed us. It's not that we abandoned the run, not at all. It's more that we abandoned the effective run-all those those jet sweeps and shotgun run plays were a waste of time. Lineup with QB under center, Jaymar and Ollie in the I and run the ball between the tackles. I was working, plus it would have opened a lot of opportunities down the field. Chaney needs to stop tinkering around in games and start running a cohesive offensive scheme. I don't know what you'd call our scheme other than inconsistent.
