Can anyone fill us in on the Bloomsburg match? I know we won 35-3 which is fantastic. I also know that Edgar, Cody and Tyler didn't wrestle and Rizzo did. Can anyone fill in the blanks? Much appreciated!

Thanks Somerset. I saw that on the Pitt site. I also noted that Coach Peters said a few of the guys were injured so they moved some guys up a weight class. It's the back story on the injuries that I'm interested in. Also, someone had mentioned previously that Rizzo might not have been the frontrunner at 285. Wanted to know if he did claim the spot since he won handily yesterday.

Re: Pittsburghpanther.com "box score" of match.

Looks like Flowrestling recently visited Pitt and had a picture of Wilps with his arm in a cast with a caption saying that it's broken. Not good.

Re: Pittsburghpanther.com "box score" of match.

Wilps did break his arm in practice so he's out for a couple more weeks. Edgar is also due to be back shortly. I'm not sure what you heard about Rizzo, but he's going to be the starter at heavyweight. Boy did Bloomsburg really fall off quickly.

Anyone who missed that Flo Wrestling content collection from a couple weeks back should carve out a good 30 minutes to check it out. There's several videos that focus on different aspects - interviews with the coaches, couple interviews with the kids, a general glimpse of what a recruit would be seeing through the eyes of an assistant, and different practice situations. I'm a peer of Coach Kocher, but I still can't help but be wowed by him. Pitt struck gold with that guy.

As for the match, really pleased when I saw how Forys did. Partially because he seemed like a pretty sharp kid at Fan Fest and particularly since I remember how things went with our last true freshman at 125. Rizzo also has me pretty jacked. Pitt's been very fortunate at HWT for the last 10+ years and he looks like he'll continue the string of success. I'll have to see him live first, but everything I've read & seen - I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up being the best we've had in this great run.

Also, the silence on Cody is deafening. While Bright & Wilps were either out or severly limited in those videos - Cody was out there working. Beyond that both Peters & Kocher are both talking up Reaghard, which, admittedly, I don't get it. I haven't seen the team this year, though. I guess it's possible there's some urgency there with all the injuries that's caused him to take advantage of things and get better.

Thanks for the info Sin. Regarding the comment on Rizzo, in the thread below entitled Wrestling Recruiting, Mike412 states "I am shocked that Yahner might beat out Rizzo". Mike's posts, like yours, are very informative and have the feel of an insider, so I took that at face value. Definitely curious as to what's going on with Cody.

No insider - just got hooked on the team in 2010 & follow them everywhere I can. I live in California now, but at the very least, I intend to keep the conference tournament streak going for a fifth year.

As for HWT, I can see why he would've read it that way. The season preview made it seem up in the air, but - to be blunt - there should never have been any doubt about who was emerging there. Leave talent & past performance aside for the two - Rizzo (and Cody, as well) signify more than just wins on the mat.

There's no big secret on Cody, he'll be ready to go soon hopefully.

The abscence of the Blue/Gold makes more sense now. Walking wounded out there.

I figured since they only mentioned the Morelli injury in the season preview & Weircioch was active in those videos, that it was something more ominous.

Good. Love the talent, the off-center personality, the story - really hope he does well.

I think there would have only been 3 matches at the Blue/Gold, which doesn't really constitute much of a "meet" so they decided to rest everyone instead.

My post about being shocked that Yahner might start instead of Rizzo was a response to another post which had mentioned the competitions which would be resolved in the Blue v Gold match (which then was cancelled). In that post the poster stated that one match of interest would be Hwt with Yahner against Rizzo and either stated or implied it was very close between them. That post was either in that thread or another thread about wrestling. There are only like 3 recent wrestling threads so you can check them to see who initially said it.
