In high school and college, I couldn't stand anything about Bobby Knight. As I matured, I had a new found respect for him. I didn't agree with everything he did, but I realized he was damn good at his job. I felt the same way about a lot of other coaches in the Big East in the 1980's and 90's. Rollie, Boeheim, John Thompson, and Pitino were all hated by Pitt fans. The only one I even remotely liked was Louie. Other than Louie, all of these guys won national championships. I still don't like them as coaches but they are all iconic figures in the sport of basketball. I don't think the popularity of college basketball would be where it is today without these coaches. RIP Bobby.
