BOOM! It's official...a record!

Barnes: " Kevin, this Dixon guy won a lot, but we started declining and fans got fed up with his half court offense. Did you know his last game here, we only scored 43 points in an NCAA tournament game? It was sooo boring, we couldn't buy a bucket. That's why you're here Kevin, you're known as an offensive genius, we're really looking to make Pitt an up tempo style team, score a lot of points, get the fans excited, bring in some big time recruits to get us to the final four."

Stallings: "43 points? Hold my beer."

Our adjusted tempo this year is 317 compared to 303 in Dixon's final year.

I posted after Stallings was hired that most of his "up tempo" history was a result of the collective faster pace of the SEC. It's too bad no journalists chose to actually analyze his lengthy career statistics before regurgitating press releases.

Today also set the record for most Pitt losses in a season in their 110 year history. Add that to biggest losses, biggest home losses, longest losing streak, etc. Stallings just keeps padding his resume.

You’re losing a lot of credibility as a poster of late.

Is scoring 43 points against a wisconsin team with 11 losses, with a squad playing 4 juniors and 4 seniors that much better than scoring 37 points against a two loss team that is the best defensively in the country while without their best player and with only one dude that has ever played more than a handful of minutes in college prior to this season?

And i love people sarcastically tossing around the “offensive genius” line so often these days. Like these coaches who have made 8-9 figures in the game of basketball that coined said phrase know less than the miserable portion of the fan base posting on this message board. It’s not like Kevin self appointed himself with the title. Half this roster can’t make an open shot and shouldn’t ever take off their warm up jersey yet are forced into action way too soon.

Pitt’s fanbase is a huge part of the problem and goes hand-in-hand with this administration and this coaching staff when it comes to the destruction of the program.

Pitt is simply NOT going to spend the money to hire someone better, especially with the buyout figure as high as it appears to be. UNLESS, one of our bigwig donors comes forward with a Brink’s truck - maybe an “experienced” gentlemen who keeps extremely fit in between his daily world travels by means of marathon training on the side?

From the Cheap Seats; didn't watch the game, but I did tie Pitt last Thursday. Had a 37, my best nine of the year thus far. Wound up with an 81. What more can I say?
On one hole?

Wow ya just gotta laugh to keep from crying. Just an abomination of a hire - #PITTIFUL!

Putting up 43 against Wisconsin, a team that also prides themselves on defense, still had that game competitive. 39 against Virginia and it was a blowout. Not that this comparison alone is really all that valid, you're right about that. But point is people were so insistent that dixon's style was old and we couldn't win that way, we had to go up tempo. Would you not call stallings more of an up tempo coach? His system is awful. He was mediocre at Vanderbilt and he's shown nothing to think he can do anything here, including completely losing the team last year.

Sure he has an inexperienced group of players this year. We shouldn't expect much. What makes anyone think stallings actually knows what he's doing right now though? They run down the court and jack up threes... and they are all terrible three point shooters other than Stewart. JWF is actually a solid player, he's just not a good three point shooter. His numbers out there are awful but stallings has no problem with him trying to take as many threes as possible.

As far as Pitt not spending money, I have a really hard time believing that. Not saying you're wrong and I'm right, neither of us have no idea yet. All signs point to Pitt firing stallings in a few weeks though. After that it depends who we would consider a better coach than stallings, and anyone they get is gonna cost Pitt a lot of money. So for that we shall wait and see.

I've seen this point made before, and it's irrelevant. I concede that Kevin Stallings knows more than I do about coaching basketball. But THAT is not very much for an ACC coach to hang his hat on. His professional peer is Buzz Williams, not Thee Jackie Treehorn. If your line of reasoning is that only a professional basketball coach is qualified of making a judgment on Stallings' job performance, then you're being ridiculous. And if you still put any credence whatsoever into this "offensive genius" nonsense, you're being willfully gullible.

The following are facts. For some reason people think they are mutually exclusive. They aren’t:

-Kevin Stallings in a good basketball coach. Of all the people who thought “I think I’ll coach basketball”, he is in the top 1% of those people.

-We don’t have good enough players. Period.

-Kevin Stallings first job is to bring in basketball players who are good enough. He didn’t. Therefore, he is still to blame and needs to move on.

My point is stop over analyzing his coaching, his style, or whatever. Bottom line is the players aren’t good enough. Therefore, he isn’t.

I can't say that I watched much Stallings' ball during his Vandy tenure to say if he's an offensive genius or not, but I do think the Pitt offense was deadly at times last year when the shots were falling and that was without a PG or a C. The team this year was going to struggle to score even if Joe Naismith was holding the clipboard.

My point is simply that it's not like it's Stallings' himself self-appointing the "offensive genius" label. It's guys that are top 20 all-time coaches and a lot of people broadcasting the game professionally. I tend to believe they know more than most of us posting on this board.

I don't care if Stallings' stays or goes. If Pitt is willing to not go cheap on the replacement and it's someone that can keep the core, then do it. I just don't know that 1) I'm gullible enough to believe that 2) anybody they hire, even at the "MAX" level they will pay, will add much to attendance.

Pitt fans will start coming back when the team starts winning. Whether that's under Stallings or someone else, I truly believe is irrelevant to the equation.

I guarantee you that a well informed Pitt fan knows far more about what is going on at Pitt with Pitt's players and Pitt's coaches than ANY national broadcaster does.

Now does that Pitt fan know more about Texas or Minnesota? It's pretty likely that they don't. But that's because the national guys pay a little attention to everyone (and perhaps more than a little to the top teams) while a Pitt fan pays way more attention to Pitt.

Stallings can absolutely stay. But the question he needs to answer is what he is doing right now to get better players. And who these better players are?

He didn’t get people good at basketball. Get people good at basketball to come to a place that a lot of people good at basketball have attended. If you can’t do it, then leave. And someone else has to promise to bring people good at basketball with them.

It really IS that simple.

Fun fact: James Naismith only had a winning record in two of nine seasons at Kansas.
Fun fact:

Naismith coached Forrest Allen who did win....and Allen coached Adolph Rupp and Dean Smith who became for a time, 1 and 2 winningest coaches of ALL time.

I would call that a common fact, not fun.
No more common than Naismith wasn’t all that successful at Kansas. Just thought somewhat interesting that 2 guys both one coach away from the games creator were at a time the games top coaches
