Just wanted to discuss some coaches... doesn't matter who, but here are my thought from the beginning of the process:
Hurley probably had the second best chance to be successful here other than Sean Miller, but I think both of those ships have sailed. Personally would rather the school have said eff it and taken a shot at Miller, but I understand.
Nate Oats... if you think he's that good, you don't mess around with a low-ball offer you pay him and get it done. I think he would be the best choice in terms or recruiting and potential other than the first two.
The next tier and where we seem to be at now is a mix of assistants and mid-major coaches. The Schmidt vs. Scheyer debate is ridiculous for the fact we are even considering the two. But, I would rather have Scheyer because of his youth and upside. However, I would rather have Micah Shrewsberry if we are going the assistant route. His previous recruiting success and his extensive background with great coaches and defensive mindset would be a good choice here.
However, at this point I would rather them go for a standing P6 coach like Wojo, Cooley, McDermott, and even (god forbid) Kevin Willard. With the money we are offering we could seriously increase these guys salaries beyond what I think their school would pony up.
Let me know what you guys think as I am generally intrigued at the opinions and thoughts of this board. H2P!
