This is the correct answer. Boyd was "suspended" for a month. We all know that this is BS, but that's the standard of all other (relevant) programs. It would have been plenty without the one game too. Though, I fully hope they wouldnt need Boyd to win ... it ... but heaven forbid they did.
It's no secret Pellini will put 9-10 in the box to stop Conner, putting the fate on the pass game. This offense will be somewhat similar to last year, but with a brand new staff, still not even vanilla at the start. The defense will be a sieve, likely. So, all it would take is a couple picks and short fields for YSU, and you've put Pitt in a nauseating deja vu position. This team needs to score alot, to win. The O will eventually be good, but who's expecting it on Day 1, esp without a key playmaker? Those who don't study history, that's who.
Conversely, Blair is an also-ran DE, and not likely to have much impact. He was recruited more as a PR stunt due to his sad health situation. I applauded that move, as well as his fortitude to make it onto the field and record a couple sacks last year. Kudos to him. But he isn't a budding Hugh Green... closer to Hugh Grant, I fear. Our media here stinks, granted, but I hadnt read Jerry D or the PG jagoff raving of Blair killing it in practice. Besides, his offense was far far worse than Boyd's and warranted worse. He's not worth the baggage that giving him a love tap like this will bring.
A 3 game or more suspension for Blair would have nicely balanced giving Boyd a mere "miss the first series" slap.
This program has to start thinking and acting like the winners think.
