Browns Getting a Dome

The future is NFL games as "experiences". Jerry Jones was ahead of the curve as usual.

Not sure about the Pitt STHs, but I know as a Steelers STH I was surveyed about a number of potential new club options for Acrisure. Clearly the Rooneys are figuring out the details of the renovation. Anyway, they were all different layouts and such and included stuff like live music, windows so you can see the players file out of the locker room, all you eat-type packages, etc. I dunno what the winner will be, but clearly more club seating is coming to Acrisure, and maybe multiple new clubs.

It's not something most folks would choose to do every week. I can afford it -- I just don't think it's worth the quoted price. But I can see a future where it's less about the weekly crowd and more about chasing 'whales' coming into town ready to drop a couple grand at the stadium for a "Steelers Experience". So I expect a new Browns stadium won't just have a dome, but will be chock-full of club seats and entertainment venues and such.

Yeah, there's no doubt they're focusing on amenities. Probably a little less so in Pittsburgh and Cleveland than some other places, but amenities nonetheless. Can't remember which one, but I believe the is even some variation of Top Golf in one of the stadiums. Doesn't Dallas "seat" like 80k but sell over 100k for people who just want to be in the stadium? I doubt they all have a direct standing room only view of the field.

I do think you're right about no longer chasing the peasant dollars as much. The music industry, with its dynamic pricing, is kind of similar. They stopped focusing on sellouts and started focusing on maximizing profits.

Steeler fans are pretty easy marks. They haven't needed nearly as much of the fancy stuff because people think church and Steeler games are mandatory on Sunday's.

Guess you didn't hear about the Luke Combs concert at Beaver Stadium that had 80,000 people in attendance. In April. Think that will be the only concert there?

LOL!!!!
They were able to hold the Luke concert without the upgrade to Beaver Stadium.

How many Luke concerts do you need to pay off $700 million.

Acrisure Stadium which seats 75,000 fans hosts a couple of concerts per year where folks don't have to travel to farm country.

Waste of $$$$$ for Penn State.

Pitt invests money in Research Facilities which bring in significantly more money for the University.

Sports bring in $.08 cents on the dollar compared to Research.

Pitt attracts $1.16 Billion dollars per year in outside funded Research.

HAIL TO PITT!!!!

I'm not at all a fan of watching football played indoors, but I suspect we'll see more of this stuff as stadiums are tailored toward a new age of fans who don't want to sit in the cold when they cold watch a game in HD on a 72-inch TV. Likely won't be long until there is a phone charger in every seat and who knows what else? Perhaps there may also be some Super Bowl hosting aspirations factoring into the decision, but I'm not sure. Other events, though, I would imagine could also be hosted.

Looks like this will be in Brook Park, OH - about 20 minutes SW of Cleveland.
I'm actually down with the indoor football now, I was like you, but now at 65 I don't want to go to cold weather or rain games anymore, I basically just go to September and October games anymore, so I can wear shorts and a t shirt, so I'm fine with a roof at this point.

I don't need amenities, I am a basic Yinzer in the football sense, all I want is tailgate, beer, beer, beer and the game, if they have electronics at the seat, I won't use it

I just hate it. Absolutely hate it. Always have. It's not like a big balls wannabe thing or anything like that. There's just something about being able to see the sky at the games that just makes the experience so much better, in my opinion. Plus - as I've gotten older and realized how much it sucks, in conjunction with all the head injury studies - I kind of cringe when guys take bigger hits. And I've heard so many guys talk about how much more it hurts to fall on turf. It just affects my enjoyment of it.

Every game in a dome just looks the same. You don't have the day/nigh contrast. The sun/cold/yuck weather/perfect weather. It's just so... standardized.

I don't really like it either. People complain about Acrisure, but I like that you know you're in Pittsburgh at Pitt and Steelers games.

I think I may be moving to seats a little under the roof at some point in the future though. The cold I don't mind, but sleet and rain kinda suck.

Yeah, college weather isn't nearly as bad as what you get in December and January at NFL games, but I've been pretty happy that Pitt made us move back from when we were in 122, where the students are now. We are just under the overhang by about five rows at the most, and it makes all the difference when there is any kind of precipitation. Only time it sucks is when it's cold but there is still some sun out that you're not getting.

I would be willing to bet my top ten coldest experiences have all been Steeler games. I've sat through some that have been freaking brutal.

Browns fans will have to travel 14 miles to see the Cleveland Browns play.

The Cleveland fans should protest and say they want an On Campus (Cleveland) Stadium.

Pitt fans complain about traveling 3.5 miles from Pitt campus to Acrisure Stadium.

LOL!!!!

I like the Vikings dome. Glass. Can see sky and skyline

My buddy married into a very wealthy family. They had a private box but also had a 12 seat row in the West Club section. If it rains, it's 4 rows in front of you due to the partial overhang....if you get cold, just go in, get a Bourbon, sit and watch the game on TV for a few minutes.

He spoiled me for life, as it relates to Steeler games. For Pitt games, I wish the Concessions were a bit more robust.

Funny that the stadium that the Browns ownership wants to abandon after 25 years, is the same stadium that was built AFTER Art Model used the condition of old Cleveland Municipal Stadium as an excuse to move the Browns to Baltimore in the middle of the night.

My relatives that are Browns fans say that the stadium was a rush job -- it was built extremely quickly to get the new franchise awarded immediately after losing the team, but was not well thought out and not well designed.

Would a “dome” involving “browns” be correctly called a “toilet seat”…?

I prefer being outside, no doubt, I just hate it though when I go and the weather is bad, especially rain. as for the injuries,
I don't care, I played in high school and knowing what we know now. I'd do it all over again. I see it as, you want to avoid injury? Never play football.

Super Bowl - tough sell with hotel rooms
Final Four - maybe one token Final Four
CFP NC - zero chance
There are certainly enough hotel rooms in this area for a Super Bowl — freakin’ Indianapolis held one, for crying out loud! Having said that, I hate domed stadiums for football. I like them for baseball because of rainouts, but football was made to be played in the elements!
