Browns trade Andy Lee because....

Somebody ask Shaun Suisham if a special teams tackle in the preseason is worth it.

Anybody think losing Suisham didn't screw up the Steelers playoff seeding badly last year?

I say smart move. Any organization cutting a kicker for not making a preseason tackle deserves itself. I'd have those guys kick and run to the sidelines.

I guess in the convoluted world of the NFL, it does make sense. But speculating that Cleveland will win this trade eventually is funny because history says they won't.
History says that getting a 4th round pick for a P says they will. That is especially true when the P has a high salary and the team trading him has no chance at contending.

While I agree for most teams, the Browns rarely make it work.

Just look at some of their epic draft failures. They've had 24 picks from the first three rounds going back to and including 2010, and have next to nothing to show for it.

The Barkevious Mingo pick in 2013 makes the whole Johnny Manziel thing look like a fluke.

Just by way of comparison, a reporter asked the Stillers special teams coach at the beginning of training camp that given what happened to Sean Suisam last year if he would advise his kicker and punter to not try to make tackles in exhibition games. His response was something along the lines of I'd like the other ten guys to do their job and then I'll never have to worry about it. He didn't come right out and say it, but it was pretty clear that he didn't want his guys putting themselves in that kind of situation in an exhibition game.

I can guarantee you that the Stillers would not get rid of a kicker or punter who did that in an exhibition game, and it's stuff like that that helps explain why the Stillers are what they are and why the Browns are what they are.
This morning on 93.7 the Fan, Josh said Cowher asked him one time what he was thinking when he made a less than stellar play on a punt. Said he told Cowher I was wondering where the hell the other ten player were. Andy Lee is far better off where he is.

That is an issue with how they use the pick, but not the value attributed to the pick vs a P on a terrible team.

I am happy for Lee, but also think this is a wise move for the Browns.

A punter is insignificant to how the Browns will do this year and it sends a message of accountability.

If they give Hue Jackson enough time he will win there.
Hue Jackson should call Mike Tomlin and ask him how he felt about his FG kicker being lost for the year last summer trying to tackle a kick returner in an exhibition game. These petty things are what make the Browns the Browns. Worry about getting one of the 10 other guys to tackle someone. That's what they are paid to do.

Oh for Christs sake he's a punter not a 90 year old grandma. He could have hustled tried to push him out of bounds and if missed ah hell he gave it the college try.

Very true. The Browns have been one of the most inept draft day teams of all time. From Kellen Winslow jr. to Brady Quinn to Johnny Manzeil the list goes on. They made an excellent pick in Joe Thomas so that's one. Hell they drafted a linebacker named Mike Junkin with Rod Woodson on the board in '87.

The Browns are the Browns like the Lions are the Lions.
