Buccos and fundamentals

Joey bart just stretched with his left foot on home plate for force out. WRONG! U stretch with opposite foot of glove hand to reach further. Luckily they still got him

3rd base coaching continues to be blunder after blunder.

Two guys thrown out at home on plays that weren't even close. That first one Cruz was out by so much that when the catcher caught the ball and turned to make the tag Cruz wasn't even in the picture yet. For a split second I thought he must have stopped at third, because he was no where to be seen and the catcher was waiting for him at the plate with the ball.

The second one, in extra innings, was a little bit closer but he was still out by a mile. With no outs. You just can't send that guy there as a third base coach if you think that the play is going to be close at all.

They also sent someone (I think it was Bart) on a shallow fly ball in the second game and were bailed out only by the first basemen's very odd decision to cut it off. There was one out, so I get wanting to take a chance. But he was out by 5+ feet without the mental blunder by the opposition.

Yes, I saw that one as well.

Maybe someone needs to check the 3rd base coach's DraftKings account.

no clutch hitting again today and collapse of bullpen AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! time to cut ties with bednar and holderman. but they won't even consider that. i know it is early, BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they have one legitimate position player- Reynolds.

I’m not sure any other position player would see the field let alone be on the roster for the vast majority of clubs. Maybe Cruz as a DH. It’s a combination of minor leaguers and players literally no one else would sign .

Such an embarrassment

Same shit show year after year. Anyone who has expectations at this point is certifiably insane.

really feel sorry for skenes..... elite pitcher with a s**t show around him!!!!! would definitely be asked to be traded tomorrow!!!!!!

Bednar is impressively consistent so far. Blew another one last night. The manager keeps running him out there. Awesome.

The whole inning was pretty enjoyable if you're one who finds comedy in this cast of rodeo clowns they call a team.

Swinging bunt dribbles down the third base line. Guy beats it out.

Guy attempts to steal second. Throw goes into the outfield. He takes third.

Wild pitch. That's your ballgame.

There are high school teams who are more buttoned up than what they've shown in this opening series against what was supposed to be the worst team in the NL (and they're missing some guys on top of that).

Honestly this is just an extension of last year. Their lineup actually got worse. They did nothing in the offseason to try and improve. I don't care. There should be MLB investigation on what they are doing with revenue.
That's a fact. Their free agent acquisitions in the off-season actually had a negative WAR rating. Objectively their team got worse during the off-season

Problem is I don't think the other teams care. If the Dodgers are willing to spend a bazillion dollars to win, they're certainly willing to look past the Pirates being one less obstacle in their path by not trying.

baseball needs a salary "floor" yet the owners voted against it last time they were going thru labor negotiations.

it frustrates the hell out of me that other teams/owners dont make Nutting "open the books" but they dont and well they are smarter than me and have different priorities than i do as a fan..

It's a club of the elite rich. The rich guys that want to win don't want a salary cap. The rich guys that want to make money don't want a salary floor. Therefore, neither group is going to fight to open anyone's books, this system works fine for all of them.

Here's a thought. If you don't like how they're running the organization, turn off the TV. Don't buy tickets. Roast the hell out of the ownership and the way things are being run. Nutting has to sit back and think the people of this region are the biggest idiots in the world because they keep shoveling horse crap onto your plate and the cash keeps rolling in.

i cant bro. i like baseball. it's just not that easy.

im hooked, im an addict to torture obviously..

Masochism is an interesting choice but I'm not about to kink shame you.
joking aside, i mean what are we going to do? Just quit watching?

Pitt football and now hoops honestly cant compete with the blue bloods either financially which will prohibit us from ever being on the same level as the top schools. do i quit watching pitt hoops and football too? or just fool myself into believing it can be done while i watch yet another .500 season in the fall and the winter?

common sense and self preservation should tell me to find something new to do in the fall and winter but here we are, waiting for 2025 season to start.

its' the same with baseball.

Quitting is always an option. Just depends on what you want out of it. I'm merely suggesting that if there was a more collective movement away from the franchise, it would get management's attention. Right now, they just don't care. It's a revenue stream for Nutting and results are measured in profit.

i feel like ticket sales are just icing on the cake and we could all boycott games and nutting would still make his money..

Maybe. I don't know what the reality of his revenue stream really looks like but there has to be a break point where fan behavior starts to cut into profits. I think it's important to remember that a smaller profit is a problem in any financial model.

Wait, are you saying that you don't think that bringing back Adam Frazier, he of the .202/.282/.294 slash line last year and who is now 33 years old, is going to help the Pirates reach new heights?

Huh. I wouldn't have guessed.

This town has gotten so little of significance from its baseball team that just winning that day is enough. Like my dad will check on the score sometimes and I'll just think, "Are you kidding me, dad? We're 28-52. Who gives a shit?" It's honestly just background noise/something to do. I don't think this many decades of mostly losing would go over as well in a more intense sport, like football or hockey. But with baseball it's just something to have on/an excuse to get out.

I hear you on Pitt athletics, though. Used to have this argument with my friend (staunch Pirate defender; non Pitt fan) all the time. I'd tell him college sports are just different and not championship-only driven. Like I could have had a pretty satisfied feeling if we just won a bowl game and finished on a high note. But that's different now. The bowl games mean nothing, and it is trending toward a more championship-or-bust system. What a shame. If we could make people play in/care about bowl games again, that would make this a lot more fun.

If that prick of an owner really wanted to make money he should sit in a dunk tank for three hours before a Saturday night game. Maybe by the Clemente statue. Let people for $50 get three tosses at the bullseye.

He’s never going to sell and he’s never going to spend.

He would get the message if nobody showed up for the 2nd and third home games with the Yankees. A total boycott

As we all know it’s all about the MONEY.
But heard yesterday Sunday, that the Yankees have been using a new bat called the Torpedo bat, I think that’s what I heard. The bat is thicker further down the handle of the bat. When a pitch is on the inside corner the batter can now hit the that pitch were before the pitch would be a foul or a swing and miss. Through Sunday the Yankees have hit 15 home runs. Judge has 4 himself. The question is will the Pirates do this. Other teams and certain players are using the new bat. The Pirates will say we have to teach our players how to use the bat.
The Pirates should buy every new type bat that can find. But with these schmuckos it probably won’t work.

Unless the Pirates can figure out how to shape the cross Jesus Christ died on into a bat, assuming there is still some divine magic left in that wood, then unfortunately I don't think it'll matter much.
