Can’t wait for the Left to tell us how wrong this is

Pharma stocks all rose after the EO .

Because everyone knows it’s not enforceable at all .
But you all love performative socialism!

This same thing was DOA by republicans in the congress

The EO was actually asking for voluntary reductions in prices - because profits are woke , or something.

Hey - remember when they were going to legislate against PBMs? What ever happened to that ?

Joey, walk me thru this man. So He's looking to codify this, meaning to basically write it in law (or something to that effect) and in essence, going right along with Trump's EO.

It looks like he and other Dems are trying to jump on Trump's bandwagon here, am i right? and GOP members are trying to codify it too (tweet below).

i see dems saying it will never pass thru congress, how dare he and now i see dems trying to not only go along with Trump's plan but expedite it..

What am i missing? again, im asking, not debating. i would be curious to hear your thoughts without us getting into a pissing match. we can do that in other threads.

maybe im confused by what "codifying" means.

Yes, you are absolutely right.

Trump's Executive Order will get crushed in court because it's drastically overstepping his authority as President. So the Democrats are attempting to make Trump's Executive Order a reality, since Congress has the power to pass the legislation required to actually enact what Trump's EO is laying out.

How the Republicans vote and if Trump actually signs the legislation will determine if the EO was an actual attempt to lower drug prices or just a vacant distraction against his voters.

but house republcans are trying to do the same. what is their intention?

Saying and doing are two different things. This would be a huge deviation from the GOP's decades long position of supportingbig pharma. Good for them if they finally want to put people ahead of their money.

Dotard donny’s executive order really doesn't do anything but suggest that big pharma cut prices with nothing in return. It's actually quite silly.

Where? Can you show what bill House Republicans are pushing to codify his drug agenda? The only one I've seen is their passing a bill to codify "Gulf of America" and their tax legislation that kicks millions of citizens off medicaid.

This bill by Khanna cuts out all of the bullshit that gets added to stuff like this (from both parties), the carve-outs, the porkbelly, the additional culture war strings that would make it suicide for the other party to support. At least that what his claim is, I don't think the bill is available on Congress.gov yet.

sorry man, i saw this and assumed it but like always, the republican party is it's own worst enemy..

Conservatives vs rinos, the endless GOP civil war. it appears even Dems are more on Trump's side than Rinos, comical if it wasnt so pathetic.

if there is one issue on this planet that can unite (Real) republicans and democrats, it's loweing the cost of prescription medications.

I posted this on another thread, but to the point, dotard donny rarely does the things he promises to do.. Just another example.

im confused as the bill clearly states this. so someeone is lying or one side is twisting the truth.

again Joey, i only know what i read. and who the F knows who's telling the truth. but cbs article below says it pretty clearly. no tax on tips starting this year and expiring in 2028..

i just dont know where the confusion lies.

Well it seems like the answer is in the specific words being used by the Congressman.

If the Congressman is correct, then Trump is lying when saying that tips are 100% yours since those tips and overtime are still taxed with payroll taxes (FICA, FUTA, and certain state taxes). While it seems like the tax bill makes the tips and overtime tax deductible, it appears that only the portion given AFTER the 15.3% payroll taxes are taken out can be deductible on your income taxes.

I could be completely wrong about that, I haven't run payroll or my own taxes in years.

hmmm, interesting. so your tips and OT income is taxed but only from payroll taxes and not from federal and state (as well as SS and medicare) BUT you can still deduct the payroll tax portion (15.3%) come tax time? confusing to say the least..

when i worked in service industry back in the day, i didnt claim sh*t. never really got called out on it either, by the bar/restaurant or the irs..

what you should do is claim only credit card tips as that can be easily audited and usually gets your hourly pay rate over the minimum wage. This is pretty much why i ALWAYS tip in cash, bartenders, servers, barber, asian massage parlors, etc..

but dont take my advice, it'll probably get you thrown in jail.

I'm going with the experts testimony in congress over a random twitter person. The OT, Tips, SS thing wasn't in any bills that I saw this year.

It's like people live in two different worlds. Just saying. Lol

No, it's likely that you can't claim the portion of payroll tax paid out of your salary+tips as an income deduction.

Also, a quick check shows that 7.65% of the tip will be paid by the person and the same paid by the business. Neither of those payment would be tax deductible.

So if you get a $100 tip, you pay $7.65 in federal payroll taxes and your employer pays $7.65 in federal payroll taxes. Then both you and the employer pay state payroll taxes on the $93.35 that is left. Then you get to take home the $90 or so that remains after the state and federal payroll taxes are removed and owe no taxes on that if you are using itemized deductions.

I’m curious as to what you’re referring to as “real republicans” in this sense? Because traditionally republicans would support free market enterprise and deregulation.

but it was in the bill, here it is. what are you meaning that it wasnt in any bills you saw this year. the bill was just introduced this week. here it is..

again, we can argue semantics, and deservedly so but you cant say it's not in any bills..

But his statement is literally not true, the hint is in the name "payroll TAX".

Wait, is dotard donny commenting on something that was stripped out of the bill before passage? You would think a president would be familiar with these things.
