At least no one is mentioning Canada for the USF HC job. But if Kiffin leaves Alabama or Jeff Scott leaves Clemson, I can totally see him getting plucked for either of those. I hope the administration is working on Canada's pay raise NOW.

Sounds like Canada will be candidate for the Temple job too. If it was up to me I'd be negotiating a major pay raise right now with Canada before the vultures even start circling.

The key question facing Mr. Canada, should he be contacted about a head coaching job, is this:

We've had a great offensive year here at Pitt. Better than anyone expected. But can we do it again in 2017 while breaking in a brand new quarterback and filling new players into some other holes?

If his answer is a strong yes, then he will likely stay for at least another year and build up that resume.
But if he thinks the offense may take some steps back (still good, but not nearly as explosive), he may opt to cash out and grab a head coaching job while his stock is at its highest value.
Remember, as good as he is at his job, he will be judged by the performance of 19-23 year old kids. He won't have the experienced QB and RB combination that made Pitt's offense so good this season.

How is a major pay raise going to keep Canada from taking a head coaching job somewhere? If a school comes sniffing around the Administration under Gallagher will do all they can to keep him. That's all we can ask.

I don't think Canada is ready for a P5 or high G5 job yet. But I do think he's an attractive option for higher-level P5's.

There aren't as many OC's that run a pro-style anymore so it would make me nervous that Saban plucks him.

Any team hiring Kiffen is a joke. He is just a crap guy who is lucky he landed at Bama. Canada did a far superior job as OC.

Kiffin should stay as a coordinator at bama. He'll never have it soo good. He tried the HC thing at a big school and it failed. Making a 7 figure salary at an established powerhouse with not having any of that crap responsibility that a HC has, that's a pretty good lifestyle. Im sure Alabama isn't exactly the cultural capital of the world but you got enough money to take the hot wife on a couple cool vacations..

Sometimes you should leave "well enough" alone..

Yeah better off for you and me, but Canada? Let's face it, last year he was fired. This year he is coveted by everyone. College football is the single most reactionary sport I have ever seen.
It truly is, that's why you almost have to expect asst coaching turnover every 2 or 3 years in today's game. You are not keeping a good coordinator for 4 years, it's just not happening.

With that said, wouldn't mind if we can keep a good one for 2 years, that's not asking too much.

I tend to agree with, well, every word of this post. But Kiffin has a big ego and he is probably already pretty tired of being Saban's whipping boy.

If you can;t keep your coordinators for more than 3 years, you can never get a program like Pitt to a sustained top 25 level. Consistency is important. If Canada leaves, Narduzzi will have had 2 OCs in 2 years, and since he;s a defense-only guy who can't take on any offensive or playcalling role, that's an enormous setback.

If Canada leaves, the next OC hire is likely to look a lot like the offensive equivalent of Josh Conklin. A well-thought of younger guy from a lesser level who hasn't made his bones yet. Narduzzi will not want to do this dance every year.

And anyone who actually thinks Pitt can or will match LSU in a bidding war is delusional. Take a look at Dave Aranda's brand new contract for reference. He's now the highest paid coordinator in college football after 1 year as LSU DC.

ok, so you are saying that a program has to keep a coordinator for more than 3 years to have any sustained success THEN you say there is no chance we can compete with LSU for Canada. so in other words, we are f*cked.

IF LSU or Bama wants Canada, then yes, that's essentially what I'm saying. Pitt simply cannot compete with those kinds of programs on any level, whether it be money, prestige, success, or anything else.

Think about it--if Narduzzi loses his second OC in 2 years as HC, do you think he;s going to go look for another guy who will be a threat to leave in another year or two? Hell no, he will be gun-shy--justifiably--and he will probably promote from within, give the gig to a guy like Salem, which would most likely be a huge drop off from all the scoring and the innovative stuff we saw out of Canada. As with basketball, the realities of this program are becoming clearer, and they aren't pretty.

The only hope is that LSU and/or Bama find someone else to fill the OC openings. We should be able to fend off most of the rest of the potential suitors--this time around anyway.

ha!!! not enough coffee this morning.

I thought Kiffins wife was from Florida? I am almost sure she graduated from UF??
Kind of harsh to be calling her a whore, too. The problem there is Kiffin ****ing everything in a skirt, not Layla. That is one reason Saban wants him to walk.
