So the little text included on their chart to demonstrate "Tariffs Charged to the U.S.A including currency manipulation and trade barriers" is the type of bullshit you add when you want to make up whatever numbers you want. I'm half-shocked it wasn't written with a sharpie.

But all those numbers actually show is our trade deficit with each country. But they couldn't say that because even Fox News commentators would have come out and said that using trade deficit to set tariff rates is the dumbest policy they could think up.

Again, for the math impaired, the numbers he pointed to as tariffs being charged on US goods are not tariffs being charged to US goods. All those numbers represent are our current trade deficit with each country, except if there was a trade surplus then they just slapped a 10% on it.

They have a monopoly on lies and deceit.

Stop complaining. We are finally free… from our material possessions and from our freedom!

Given that the US is by far the largest economy in the world, the expectation that we have equal trade with other countries is obvious nonsense. Trump is an idiot.

"On a static basis, today’s announcement would raise just under $400 billion in revenue, or about 1.3% of GDP, which would be the largest tax increase since the Revenue Act of 1968," he wrote. "We estimate that today’s announced measures could boost PCE prices by 1-1.5% this year, and we believe the inflationary effects would mostly be realized in the middle quarters of the year."

He continued: "The resulting hit to purchasing power could take real disposable personal income growth in 2Q-3Q into negative territory, and with it the risk that real consumer spending could also contract in those quarters. This impact alone could take the economy perilously close to slipping into recession."

What's funny is people like @NCPitt thought they were voting for a tax cut, while ignoring what dotard donny was saying all along- "I'm going to tax the hell out of you morons".

$400 billion is a very, very conservative number just using the 10% base rate on our $4 trillion in imports. China's tariffs are up to 54%.

Even if our imports from China decrease by 15% this year, this tariff will tax Americans $200 billion just from Chinese products.

It seems like wall street was banking on "dotard donny can't be this stupid, right? "

Pay attention now.

I guarantee you that my income tax savings will be greater than any costs from tariffs.

If you're so inflexible and uninformed to eat any higher prices (if they happen), then that's on you.

Not going to happen.

Excuse me non-patriot....Those penguins in the Heard and McDonald Islands have been getting a free ride from the United States for far too long. Have you seen Happy Feet...$200 million in box office stolen from hard working Americans. Did those winged rats even bother to set up a projector for Gran Torino?

The formula that you posted basically confirms exactly what I said, just in a way that looks technical to people that can't math. It specifally states that they are using the concept that any reason that a trade deficit exists must be because of unfair trade practices, which is what their fine print states as part of "manipulation and trade barriers".

On a static basis, Creepy Joe's dementia in 2020 would never be that great of a concern to the Dems. Things changed.

Static Analysis "Constant Variables:
It assumes that factors like technology, tastes, and preferences remain unchanged, allowing for a simplified analysis of the current state.

Contrast with Dynamic Analysis:
Static economics contrasts with dynamic economics, which considers changes over time and the processes of adjustment and movement towards new equilibrium states. "

See? Even AI gets it.

There is no rule saying that you need tariffs to lower the income taxes for the middle class or in your case, a retiree (assuming) who is already in a crazy low tax bracket. Tax the ultra-rich. Cut taxes for the middle class. It's pretty easy.

I thought they communicated their plans for tariffs better yesterday than they have but I just can't get behind what Trump is doing. He is taking this too far. I really hope I am wrong.

Six months ago the right was screaming about how true American patriots were suffering because eggs cost $2 more, and how the Big Guy will be laser focused on rescuing Americans from the tyranny of Biden’s egg prices.

Now? “If you can’t eat higher prices because of the tariffs, then that’s on you.”

lol. Now that it might hurt you, now you care. When his policies hurt other groups of people you laughed about it.

He said he would do this. You voted for it. Get ****ed.

Nah I’m good and will be fine. Just disagree with these policies. I am sorry to tell you that buddy. You are so angry and just want everyone to be miserable like you but I’m good bro!

That’s what the left doesn’t understand. You can be generally for someone or some thing but not agree 100 pct and have concerns. Regarding tarrifs and the entire economic picture this is a good interview with Scott Bessent

It's the same thing as the Elon Social Security Number thing the other day. Go up on stage, say a bunch of scary things to mislead the audience, show a graph with big numbers with fine print that doesn't match the words coming out of their mouth, then maybe post the reality somewhere that 99% of voters will never see (And even those that do see it, 90% of them won't have any clue what it means).

Yeah, it’s being intellectually honest. Something that many of them struggle with. Just because you voted for somebody doesn’t mean you have to support everything that they do.

So the same people who are losing their minds over tarrifs that will raise prices are for taxing the shit out of corporations because they won’t pass those costs along to consumers.
