He makes an excuse and then says he isn’t making an excuse. Get this guy out of here. I’m surprised he didn’t use the War in the Ukraine as an excuse for his team not being able to focus. Capel is an awful coach and role model.

Why does everyone say he’s likeable? When have you ever met a dukie that was likeable? He is a dukie through and through. And he has an open contempt for this place not being as good as Duke? Why is he likeable? Because he shares the obvious view that Black Lives Matter?
He’s out of touch with reality, his team and the common man. Don’t find him likeable at all.

No one “likes” listening to constant excuse making
When he was hired, I was upbeat and wanted him to succeed, partly because he seemed sincere and likeable. Now I find him irritating and annoying and very insincere. He is totally out of touch with reality with anything.
Chris Duhon is an amendment to the non likeable Duke guys. Mostly because he’s been shunned by Duke

Clint Hurdle made similar comments and you saw what happened to him.
JJ Redick turned out pretty likable as far as athletes go and I absolutely hated him at Duke.
I mean hell as far as unlikeable because he’s such a competitive Dick - Christian Laettner qualifies -
But if he was as good as a pro as other competitive dicks - say Michael Jordan and Larry Bird - it’s funny how those narratives flip in time
Like Capel, Wannstedt should have recognized the team’s weaknesses and fixed them before they became an issue during the season.
To say such things during or at the end of the season just exposes a coach who does not evaluate and anticipating well. You just point out the obvious. That does not make them look like a smart coach. It makes them look like a pathetic excuse maker.
These coaches get paid way too much to allow their teams to get to this point and then make such comments. Either prove you can get it done or hand over the keys .
