Capel quotes

Why does everyone say he’s likeable? When have you ever met a dukie that was likeable? He is a dukie through and through. And he has an open contempt for this place not being as good as Duke? Why is he likeable? Because he shares the obvious view that Black Lives Matter?

He’s out of touch with reality, his team and the common man. Don’t find him likeable at all.
Fair point. Haven't met the guy so, it's probably that he's reasonably polished at the PR game, IDK. He seems likable and I don't feel any ill will toward him personally, but it's hard to have any optimism for the program with him at the helm.

Like Capel, Wannstedt should have recognized the team’s weaknesses and fixed them before they became an issue during the season.

To say such things during or at the end of the season just exposes a coach who does not evaluate and anticipating well. You just point out the obvious. That does not make them look like a smart coach. It makes them look like a pathetic excuse maker.

These coaches get paid way too much to allow their teams to get to this point and then make such comments. Either prove you can get it done or hand over the keys .
And in the end of that quote Capel said “I am totally responsible for this”

but not surprising - that portion was omitted by some here

he’s not a good coach and his staff stinks
I’m hoping a mutual parting of ways is the next step - so he can save some face .

As for football, you can't fix football team speed in 2 years. Heck, if Pitt played Bama, tOSU, or several others today, team speed would be an issue.

As for basketball, it's just an admission that they haven't recruited the talent they need. It does point out the obvious, but at the same time, it doesn't mean the obvious isn't true.

Oh, I don't disagree at all. Just thought they would already be moving in that direction.

I'm not big on pressers or coach speak, so I rarely pay very close attention to any of these interviews or soundbites. The product on the court speaks for itself. However, I would like to know how Capel would answer if he were asked if he can tell a big difference in the energy and effort that Pitt played with at UNC and what his teams bring to the court in games like these last 2 weeks. ...and if yes, why?

If Femi, Jeffress, Collier, Oladapo and Amadasun leave, does that impact Heathers decision?

If it was Bama or OSU blowing past Pitt’s defense that would be a different story. It was WVU and most every other BE team Pitt played. It is fair to give a new D1 FB coach a pass his first year for not having adequate speed on the roster. Beyond that, not so much.

Why should we care if any in that group bolts?
If a man who has shown very little recent ability to recruit, loses (5+2 graduating) half his roster, why should anyone are? Particularly Lyke?

We shouldn’t
It doesn’t change the inevitable or the decision regarding Capel
You don’t make a coaching decision based on players - let alone bench role players

Yes. It gives Capel a longer leash since it opens up his roster to recruit actual D1 players. Besides Femi, nobody else you named is remotely close to being an ACC player. You cant have those guys taking up a scholarship

How many times do we need to see a mass exodus of players from the same coach before the red flags goes up with the decision-makers at Pitt. One time is usually enough for most schools.

Again, why did he get an extension? Were there really other schools interested in stealing him and his mediocre record away? I’d love to know who pushed for Capel to get a few more years added. Any chance that person wants to come forward and explain him or herself?

“Heather Lyke and The administration at Pitt are expected to give Capel one more year to get the Panther program headed in the right direction.”

In other words… “The damn Coach won’t agree to take less for his buy out.”

Correct. There is absolutely no reason to bring him back other than money.

I wouldn’t read much into anything on that site - they don’t know
That’s a small circle conversation with folks who aren’t going to spill
Trust me I’m no fan of that site. I do believe they get some scoop but reliability/accuracy isn’t always on point. But I was saying that on its own merit. Perhaps I’m missing something but I can’t remotely see any reason for him to return other than money. It may be so bad that boosters will step up. I wasn’t suggesting they won’t. But if there’s any other reason to bring him back I’d like to know what it is. And I mean pure basketball reasons only.

Of course the buyout is the only reason he'd be back. 3 last place finishes and a 3 way tie for 11th with a team who will be picked 12th or 13th next year doesn't get you a 5th year normally
