Capel should hold a walk on tryout at this point

Because he has declared and has more or less indicated he's all in on going pro. I'm not saying I'm thinking he will be drafted per se, but my gut tells me he's done playing college basketball. Please believe me when I say, as a Pitt Hoops fan, that I really, really hope my gut is dead wrong.

I am told he is not coming back , overseas if not NBA, stay tuned

Unfortunately, I don't disagree with this at all. I'm just trying to be as positive as I can, for the simple reason that I don't like the depressive nature of the alternative.
Reality isn't always pleasant. I'm trying to believe that Capel can get through this, the guy's a good fit if he can recruit. Gotta shake up the staff, though.

I mean he's going to have 13 scholarship players eventually, but its possible that on June 1, we may only have 8 players for next year:

Femi, Horton, Nike, Jeffress, Collier, Oladapo, Max, Santos. The TT transfer needs a 2nd transfer waiver in as many years and we don't know about Champagnie and Hugley.
Amadusun should be out of quarantine and the Hugely hearing is next week. Hope everything thing progresses fast because practice starts in 5 days... I mean 5 MONTHS!!!

I think all the posters who constantly gripe about him should dust off the Chuck Taylor’s, Air Jordan’s etc and let us see their game at this tryout.
I would pay cash to watch a 5 on 5 and take bets on heart attacks.
When I came to Pitt in 1977 i used to play pickup at Tree's. Franco Harris would play and back then I thought I was a highly athletic dude....6"2" and could do a two handed dunk standing under the basket. He ran past me like I was wearing cement Converse.......

All things are relative.

He needs to add at least a few more bodies. This coming hoops season is going to be fugly.
Pitt Basketball is in bad shape. The current state brings me back to one of my favorite quotes I ever saw on here. The quote was in reference to Jamie Dixon toward the end of his years at Pitt. I don't remember who deserves credit for it but he said that " Dixon could not recruit a starving man to a steak dinner."

Well, that was true. It also applies to Capel. He has struck out so many times he is the equivalent of baseball's Dave Kingman. He was brought here to recruit and has been a complete failure. I can't decide if it is on him totally or if the University has completely handcuffed him. If we were going to play strictly by the rules, I don't think it would matter who we hired.

Capel is a good man who has established a good rapport with alot of top players and their families early in their recruitment. To this point, it hasn't mattered even a little bit. Fire him, Don't fire him. I really don't think it matters. The perception of the program has changed and if we don't get our hands a little bit dirty, that perception will not improve.

Yeah. Kingman had seasons where he led the league in both strikeouts and home runs. I think we would all be pretty happy with Capel if he had a K/HR ratio anything close to Dave Kingman.
I guess that was a bad analogy even tho he was a strikeout king he did hit plenty of homeruns. Capel has not hit a single one in four years unless you want to count Penny, but he was only a 3 star recruit.

Kingman’s last 3 seasons were:

35-118
30-91
35-94

Had he not retired at the relatively early age of 37 he would’ve hit well over 500 home runs.
