What are the thoughts? If Capel was dumping any of his staff wouldn’t he have done that already?

Have openings and get people interested to come? Now with all of the new hires of coaches they will be scouring the forests to get guys.

Not expecting anything but isn’t there usually a lot of activity final four weekend? But not sure why anyone would come to Pitt with his flaming hot seat other than to just have a job. Which is no reason to hire anyone obviously.

As you and @Pittnerski said, lots of activity/deals Final Four weekend. I know we'd all LOVE a staff change or two, but who honestly believes Capel will go through with it? I'm just about done with him. I want Pitt to succeed like the rest of us, but after 4 years, who thinks it will? He's just collecting paychecks at this point.

I’m like a broken record so apologies but there’s a lot of people I’m sure who couldn’t/wouldn’t fire a sibling. Which is why they shouldn’t ever be allowed to hire one to begin with.

Even if Jason was doing an ok job it’s just not worth it. Especially when guys like him are a dime a dozen.

Heather s job to fire the sibling if the main check collector won't. . Force Capel to accept it or resign. He refuses??? Insubordination

Capel is probably not replacing anyone. He doesn't have the guts to do that and really doesn't care one way or another. That's the culture he has brought to Pitt now with his actions. He's beyond incompetent.

I remember when Capel hired his brother. I questioned the move because what if it didn't work out. People on this board let me know pretty straight up it was ok. One pointed to the Hurleys. Four years later and ,well, how's it working out?

If she gets more involved, wouldn't that insulate her in the event things are no better at the end of year 5? Don't get me wrong, for the sake of the players taking the court I hope things do get better (just having trouble seeing a path for that right now). I experienced working for someone who micro-managed in a previous job, so I respect that she doesn't want to step in/step over some sort of imaginary line. I appreciate @King Of All Message Boards sharing this. I ask as I don't know: Are the contracts for assistants have similar structure and buyouts of head coaches?

So it's pass the buck time now. She passes the buck to Capel and Capel makes excuses. Boy, we are in a real pickle with this program.
I actually agree with that approach. There are many issues but I don’t see this as one. No coach (present or future) needs a meddling AD. Let them do their thing and retain/fire the head guy accordingly.

I admit I was wrong about Hugley leaving, but let me try again.

My reading of the Lyke quotes indicates to me there will be a staff change.

Lyke just wants to make it appear that will be Capel's choice.

That's a good idea, if you can trust your head coach to do the right thing for the program. I guess she does trust Capel. We'll see if he does the right thing now.

Of course Lyke is going to say that the buyout was not a factor! We have a very bad basketball team and staff and not trying to fix it is frustrating as an alum and fan.

I do not tend to pay attention to staffs. But when I looked today the Gang of Four are the same gang each year. I think even Stallings made some changes.

I have the feeling that behind closed doors this staff really believes "No one can win here." The Capel brothers' college experience as players at Duke and NC was largely on teams who had more talent than the opponents, good coaching helped, but everything works when your players are better than theirs, even if just by a little bit at each position. Rolling the ball out, shooting around, working on some spacing and bingo you are at 20 wins without much coaching. So if this low hanging fruit does not work, it is the fault of the players/location, etc. it is very evident when HCJC is being interviewed and in light of zero staff changes, IMHO

I absolutely believe they think that. But then you have schools like WVU (well not this year), TT, Creighton, SHU, Rutgers, VT, etc winning.

When its all said and done and people and their peers ask them what happened, the will blame 2 things:

1. No local recruits. Recruiting was too hard they'll say (but ignoring the teams above)

2. They will blame the fans for lack of support and point to that as a reason for all the transfers.

The bottom line is that kids will play for Kabul University if they like the coach. They care about almost nothing besides who the HC is. Capel simply couldn't sell himself.
