Awesome - thanks for taking the time to write this up.Thanks for pointing this out - I just listened. Short little interview, but here’s a summary:
- Coach has never been to Italy, and most of the team has never traveled out of the country, so he’s looking forward to spending time with his family and being able to provide the experience for the players, and to see the different culture and history. It’ll also be a chance for team building, which is always a process for any team to get everyone on the same page and hopefully going overseas will help with that.
- Said there’s definitely some pressure to get the team and the incoming class up to speed given the season opener against what he described as a talented, long, and motivated FSU, and the road trip to a motivated RMU team looking for an upset in game three - usually you get a few games and exhibitions to get the team gelling before conference play, and not having that will be a challenge.
- Strength staff does a great job in the summers - mentioned working specifically on Xavier, Trey and Toney working on shooting the ball and Brown working on his strength and motor as weak spots in their respective games that they’ve honed in on this summer. Similarly, there’s a period with the incoming guys where they really get to see their individual games up close and see where they’re maybe stronger or weaker than expected. Didn’t single any of the newcomers out.
- Mentioned the change in the recruiting calendar this year that caused the staff to be out on the road more than they have in previous summers.
- All three of the gyms in Italy won’t have air conditioning, so he’ll definitely be wearing shorts - but no Gucci loafers.
