Just since 1869, or All Century Teams 1900-1999, and Last 16 Years 2000-2017, Pitt Talent Out Classes WVU and Penn State too. All corrections appreciated!
Excerpts:

Change is inevitable in the NFL. But now it seems it happening faster all the time. Consider this: On my list of the top 100 NFL players from last summer, 38 players are not on this year's list.

PITT 3. Aaron Donald L.A. Rams DT
It's too bad the Rams haven't been good in his time with the team. He's a force on their line who doesn't get the due he deserves.

PITT 38. Larry Fitzgerald Arizona WR
In 2014, if you would have said he'd be this high, I would have said you were nuts. But he's had consecutive seasons of 109 and 107 catches. He's more of a possession receiver now, but still a playmaker.

PSU 61. Cameron Wake Miami DE
He came back from a torn Achilles tendon to get 11.5 sacks to tie him with Seattle's Cliff Avril for sixth in the league. At 35, he played like a man much younger than that.

PITT 65. LeSean McCoy Buffalo RB
He averaged an impressive 5.4 yards per rush last season, totaling 1,267 yards with 13 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 50 passes.

PSU 79. Sean Lee Dallas OLB
When he's on the field, he's impressive. He can run to the football and he's a good tackler. He's a bright spot on a defense that doesn't have a ton of them.

I don't think anyone thinks ups or wvcc has anywhere near the talent Pitt has had.
It is not WVU fault, only a Handful of Football Programs have produced NFL & College Top Elite Talent, Pitt is leads Pennsylvania and the ACC in that category, and joins USC-California, Ohio State-Ohio, Michigan-Michigan, Notre Dame-Indiana, Bama-Alabama, and just a few more.

Does the Kabuki Dance.

Problem is that Pitt, despite turning out big NFL stars, has typically not had the college quality depth that some schools have had that has produced better W-L results.
Quite agree, ever since 1939, Pitt refused to put Athletics ahead of Academics and followed Big Four Agreement after 1960 more stricter that included Foreign Language Requirements and limited Redshirts just to 10 and only Medical Redshirts, no 35 Freshmen Redshirts brought in starting in 1965-66 that gave him big advantages over Cuse, Pitt, and WVU until 1973.

Pitt caught up in 1973-74 with New Emphasis on Rebuilding, Funding, and Bringing in Top Coaches & Recruits and Won National Championship in 1976, but Majors returned to his beloved Tennessee that laster Fired him, and Jackie Sherrill left for the Big BucK$ at Texas A&M followed by Missty State that ended in NCAA Probation, and Pitt turned Jackie down in returning in 1989. They also did not Hire Barry Alavarez that badly wanted to come to Pitt!

After that, Pitt Chancellor had to be Fired, and Nordenberg knew the Value of growing perception of winning at Sports reflects back on the University Success and slowly but surely grew the Program to a Return of Winning, New Facilities, Big East Growth & Turmoil, and eventually Invitation to the ACC is 2012 all with Athletic Integrity, and now a Stable Steady Budget to Rebuild a Football and Basketball Programs to support other Athletic Programs!

Even throughout the 1939 to 2016 Eras, Pitt always produced higher Quality Football Players but had trouble maintaining a National Program and making mistakes on refusing Coaches like Alvarez and Calpari, as well as attracting a Top Coach that wanted to stay at Pitt only with Fazio that failed, Jackie's Return Denied, and Wannstedt being Fired. Only Narduzzi waited and wanted the Pitt Job for a Long time much like Alvarez!!

Now we shall see if Coach Pat & Staff are up to the task of rebuilding and reloading Pitt Football in 2017 with his own Recruits and Players and doing it in a tougher ACC and against Two Top Ten Teams in Penn State and Oklahoma State early!

Pitt biggest problem in rebuilding its athletics has been Pitt's own misjudgements on Athletic Directors Management by Consultants, moving Athletic Facilities off Campus, terrible Coaching Judgments by Pederson's Poison that could not manage his own Alma Mater NU Top 25 Program let alone build one at Pitt, and as an Urban University limited to space and 18,000 mostly Commuting Students, while competing with a smaller City's Sports Dollars with Successful Pro Teams in Steeler's, Penguins, and Pirates.

Still, Pitt is now following the Wisconsin, TCU, Northwestern, MSU, Clemson, Stanford, and UCLA models but overcoming Big Programs surrounding them is not easy and never has been since giving up its advantages in 1939, unlike USC, BAMA, Nebraska, LOU, Michigan, UTexas, Ohio State that all kept putting money in and building its Athletics forward, and Penn State in 1960s, Pitt 1970s, Miami 1980s, VT 1990s, Oregon 2000s, and Clemson too.

Building and Rebuilding a College Football into a Top 25 Winning Teams Year in and Year Out, requires Coaching Stability and Excellent Judgment in attracting hiring, and keeping a Top Coach of Excellence. Now, even that is tougher as seen at Oregon, UTexas, LSU, Miami, Michigan, USC, Auburn, A&M and others?

So Little Done & So Much More to Do To Rebuild Pitt Football Program!
