Yeah. The way the whole thing went down from the beginning. ...He was reportedly going to PSU, then his rep says not so fast... Another WR commits, then decommits for a seemingly less stable situation, while there was no noise from Dante's camp.

Seems tp me we only get that ones from the WPIAL that left for other schools and didn't get playing time. I just think its funny when we thought we were going to get Cephas everyone loved him now he is trash. Kind of like the Rose Bowl everyone was talking up Utah and then they got beat and now they are trash. We lost out on one WPIAL guy from the portal and he is a good player. You cant get them all. Let's go find another guy

Also, good notes on Porter JR, he really isnt good at all and is only getting graded high bc of his old man. I heard he is a troublemaker too and Fraudlin has covered up several run ins with the law with him and others there. Place is a CESSPOLE
Why the fret on this. Cut and dry. Programs like PSU can throw unlimited cash at anyone. And with the new unlimited rules, if the guy doesn’t dig the weird, racist, rape vibe there, he can bail and transfer yet again. Maybe on the fourth or fifth wave he’ll come through here.
I've said it a few times, I wish we would have recruited Daequan Hardy out of Penn Hills. He's a nice player for PSU that we apparently did not offer. He was high school teammates with Cephas, I can see why Cephas picked PSU given that his old teammate is there.

Pitt was #22 in the transfer rankings with only 4 transfers. Most in the top 25 have 10 or more. Pitt's roster has been mostly stable which makes the need for a high volume of transfers unnecessary.
Cephas is an NFL WR. He's a good get for pedst.

Did Cephas get that memo? Because if he did, I'd have to think he'd be off to the NFL draft, not to State College PA.
Don't get me wrong, I'd have been happy to see him at Pitt due to glaring need at the position. He's a solid, experienced MAC receiver with some decent production under his belt. But I don't see him changing any P5 team's trajectory much.

I know some local coaches who feel he's making a mistake transferring and should of just went to the draft. I'm $ure he ha$ hi$ rea$ons for transferring.

This is why people who think the portal is the future are fooling themselves.
There’s like 15 or 20 guys in the portal that are even ranked as solid 4* guys in college.
The list of schools they are going to basically make up the Top 10 high school recruiting rankings, outside of FSU, as Norvell seems to do insanely well compared to his lack luster high school recruiting.
The only way to land studs remains through high school recruiting.
I beg to differ! I think the people who rank high school kids are behind the business. You can fortify or fill a gap with the portal. Let’s face it…you are way more physically fit at 20 with a training table and S&c coach.
I don’t think he’s the caliber of player that would get much NIL incentive to transfer to a P5. His numbers were pretty modest at a MAC school. At the P5 level he may be just another guy.
Yeah. The portal is for nice depth or a nice way to find a physically advanced JAG. That’s it.
There are few studs in the portal. And what studs there are, are going to upper tier colleges.
High school is the only hope to find Addison or KP or KC.
The big dogs quietly add P5 all-conference level starters from the portal to fill need positions. Especially on the O and D line. Everyone else is fighting over what’s left, which is largely high P5 guys who aren’t getting much PT, or solid productive starters from lower level programs.
Not too different from the age old HS recruiting haves and have nots.
We’ll have to see how it plays out over a few years but so far the portal and NIL doesn’t appear to be changing the established order of things in any meaningful way. The rich get richer, everyone else fights for what’s left.
Mostly how painful it was to have a bad qb and what is best described as a mediocre offensive scheme

It wasn’t meant to change anything, unless to make to the top programs even better.
The assumption has always been that big programs like in the SEC or B1G would have the bigger NIL backers and they’d benefit the most from it. The Kent guy going to PsU proves that out. There’s no good reason for such a guy to go there right now. New inexperienced QB, new unnamed WR coach, should be red flags. Yet up the cow path he goes. It was the $$$. No program like ours has the same NIL $ to offer in that situation. That’s by plan. All it is is the same payola model only somewhat legalized. (Under table money is still happening as well of course).
No rule change gets approved that doesn’t have benefits for the top tier.
I mentioned that there is a good reason -- his high school teammate (who was under-recruited much like him) is at PSU and doing very well.
Because most of them had just barely 4* rankings. Like .89 to .90 type rankings. So they probably haven’t really dropped a ton. “4” is just too broad of a field.
Really? A lot, lot, lot of guys have/had good friends who play at different schools and don’t make that their top condition to transfer to it. I’ll admit it is something reasonable to put on the list, but it wouldn’t be near the top. I’d assume this guy wants to excel somewhere and be elevated in status and I’m not saying Pitt is necessarily the best place for that either (doubts about Cig and the commitment to throw the ball would be perfectly understandable); but PsU is a more dubious destination for that at the moment.
Let’s be classy. We demean PSU for criticizing recruits that sign elsewhere, so let’s not be like them. As far as I Know, Speca has been nothing but classy in his recruitment. Pitt wanted him but didn’t get him. They tried, enough said. Pitt will get someone else who wants to be a Panther, and will perform at a high level.
