Looks like Chaney is leaving for Georgia. Wasn't a bad OC but wasn't the best either. I'm sure Narduzzi can find another solid OC... Only concern is how Chaney's departure will affect recruiting

The effect of a lower paying school to a higher paying school, we need to be financially competitive with other power 5 schools so this over bidding of our coaches is hard to o, these schools know if they need a good coach they know they can come and get one at Pitt. Assure Narduzzi can hire a good OC, but if another school needs one they will find him at Pitt, raise the payroll so Pitt does become a destination job not a stepping stone

Fans have to step up.
If you think Pitt can beat out a place like Georgia in a bidding war for assistants, it ain't going to happen. Not unless Pitt can draw 70,000 to ALL games.

Assistants moving generally isn't a big deal to me, up to a point.
Should he be successful, it's the head coach you really need to keep.

An assistant moving is a big deal if it's the coordinator. We will be hearing next season how it takes a year or two for the offensive players to get comfortable with the new offensive system.

We don't have a year or two for that... Instead of building on this season, we start all over next season.

Go Pitt.

That should only be the case if the coordinator runs a foreign system, which if that were the case means he's a bad hire.

Guys are going to move on to better jobs. Position coaches to coordinator positions, coordinators to head coaching positions, the NFL, etc.
While important, the are replaceable, which is why they make a fraction of what the head coach does.

Correct. Ask any head coach and theyll tell you how important it is to have staff continuity, especially coordinators. Turnover hurts.Continuity and Pitt football have not often appeared in the same sentence the past several years.

I just hope Duzz makes a good hire to replace the Big Fella. I think the younger up and comer looking for a good opportunity to make a name for himself, a guy like a Salem, might be ideal. A Jim Bollman would also be a good pick, he's co-OC at MSU and is the lower paid OC to Dave Warner.

The problem with "a young up an comer" is they leave quickly for the first step up opportunity.
Right now PITT football needs stability real stability with no turnover. If the custodial staff for the football building leaves that's to much football program turnover for me.Zero-Zero turnover.
Go for a seasoned this is my last football stop OC with his next stop being assisted living.

We just had that guy and he left after a year. A lot of the older re-tread guys are just treading water and aren't up on the current trends. The young up and comer will give you 3-4 years (if he;s doing a good job) before you have to worry about him bolting. Meanwhile you make your QB coach your co-OC and groom him to succeed the OC when he leaves. Keep it all in the program. That's why you see all these programs with "co" coordinators now, and that's how you keep your continuity.

That makes sense. I just want to see a staff that works together for 3-4 years. If we get that timeframe with Narduzzi steering the ship I think we'll be a top 10 football program.

I would like Pitt be competitive payroll wise, where we can go get a coach off of another power 5 school when we need one, like they do to us
