Cinderella FF ratings vs Blue Blood FF

true, but then people can't complain when only 2000 show up for a Tuesday 9pm tipoff against Boston College when there isn't a whole lot on the line for it
I never decided to go or not based on what's on the line. When I lived in Pittsburgh I went to almost every game, football and basketball and what's on the line never was a deciding factor, But that's just me. Last year I chose to go to the Rhode Island game, basically because that particular weekend fit best in my schedule, hod nothing to do with opponent or relevance. I've always been that way.

I think everyone knows that the tournament rarely produces the best team. UConn looked really good in this tournament but who did they beat? If we go by the last regular season coaches' poll, they beat #18 SDSU, #16 Miami, #9 Gonzaga, unranked Arkansas, #19 SMC, and unranked Iona. Nice wins but not a ton of heavy lifting there. The same can be said about SDSU's path. The tournament is great and all but I dont watch it to see who the best team is. I know that most times, the best teams will get upset. But that's the fun. If they played it again next week, the Final Four could be Pitt, Alabama, Purdue, and Iona. So much randomness.
Why do people have this idea that the Champion has something to do with being best team? Sometimes the best team becomes the champion, other times they fail. That's why they play the games, in 2007 the 18-1 Patriots where the best team and the 13-7 NYG where the Champions, that's sports.

I guess the NFL and NBA don't crown true champions either then. Its just the team that gets hot in January and June respectively right?

The NBA does. The NFL does most times. College football does. College basketball very rarely does. You beat 6 random teams, most of them not that good, and you're the champ. UConn deserves to be called the champ. Were they the best team? Maybe. Maybe not. Their strength of schedule over their 6 game run wasnt great. Pitt probably had a tougher 6 game stretch in the weak ACC at some point this season.

i consider the ncaa tournament the antithesis of what MLB used to be. Think about Baseball back in the old days when you had two leagues and the winner of the pennant, squared off in the world series.. That's crazy to me..

Obviously they evolved, created divisions in the 70s and more divisions and now wild cards.. but think about baseball in the 60's, where only one team from the AL and NL made the playoffs..

Who was the best team then? and why?

Question: Would you all prefer the USA pro sports had European style Championships, where the team with the best regular season record is just declared the Champion, so that we can be surer that "BEST TEAM" wins most of the time? Would you enjoy that better? You could even do it for college sports, use record and then strength of schedule or one of those metrics, then there's no chance that "BEST TEAM" gets upset. what would you say to that?

i feel like everything is good as it is. we can tweak things now and again, adding another wild card spot but all the sports have a pretty good post season format.

what the ncaa hoops does with the tourney is fantastic. Everyone loves it, it's March Freakin Madness. leave it alone. but just because that works, doesnt mean it would be good for other sports. all post season formats in the USA dont have to be uniform...

I just have always had this attitude that winning the championship doesn't have anything to do with being the best team and shouldn't, winning a playoff format is objective and being the best team is subjective.
