I watched that game from start to finish and here are my thoughts:
- The tech to start the game was a first. Leave it to Pitt to be losing a game before it starts..ha!
- J-rob...I realize he's not going to hit 4 of 5 threes most nights but the fact that its possible gives us a chance against the big boys. He went for 18-8 and zero turnovers.
- Maia - another guy who if he can give the type of minutes we saw last night will be a great contributor.
- Sterling Smith...you are the SG we've been looking for! Missed one shot on 5 FG and 5 FT shots last night and he can play some D. 16 points but even crazier 11 boards. Averaging almost 7 boards a game since the first game of the year against Detroit. This guy needs all of:
- Chris Jones minutes. He shouldn't be seeing more than 10 min a game. He's too slow to defend and more often missing his shots than not. He did have some nice explosion for that dunk in traffic but thats not likely to repeat often.
- Artis - he doesn't seem as in sync as he was last year and then I look up and he's 6-10 from the field with 14 points, 4 dimes and 4 boards. We have some serious upside to score the rock when he gets it going.
- Michael Young - he's game really reminds me of a version of chris webber. He can shoot outside, bang for rebounds, and pass incredibly well. I was shocked he only had 4 assists last night but I'll take 20-11 any day.
- Sheldon Jeter - I love this role for him. Energy and emotion off the bench. Played 18 minutes and went for 12-8. Off the charts athleticism that I'm hoping translates into being a lockdown defender by next season.
- Damon Wilson - looks lost right now and thats typical for a freshman. I'm excited to see what he turns into by the end of the year.
- Luther - he needs an RS. He's best suited as a stretch 4 but not big enough to defend a 4 in the ACC at this point.
