I realize it's all just white noise at the moment, and maybe it;s just me, but there seems to be a lot more recruiting activity going on from our staff right now than we've seen in past years, and by that I mean decades. maybe it's just the social media aspect of it that brings it to attention more than years past, but it sure seems to be an aggressive effort his time around. Obviously Dooz has made it top priority to upgrade the talent on this team.

Some really good talent in Pitt's backyard this year, we will need another season of improvement on the field to sell to those kids that something good is happening at Pitt. As always it's all meaningless until LOI day 2017, but I do like what I'm seeing. .

I wondered if Coach Duzz gave everyone, including himself, a boot in the rear after the bowl game. I mean, for a defensive-minded coach like him, that game had to eat him up. The bowl game against Houston was one thing, but this time it was his defense being shredded. I think he determined the only fix was a "big and fast", so to speak, influx in talent.

I'm sure Pitt's recruiting efforts were strong, but after the bowl game they really seemed to close out the recruiting season very aggressively (e.g., guys like Camp and Weaver), and now they seem to be in on a lot of top talent for the next cycle.

Go Pitt.

I think social media/transparency is a big part. I seem to think that Wannstedt was just as active; remember, this board dubbed him "The Recruitinator".

The season of improvement line is important, IMO. One difference between those to is the momentum from Pitt's 8-4 record this regular season, in contrast to the 5-6 record Wannstedt posted. It's one reason why I've said Pitt needs to go at least 8-4 again next season.

I think Wanny gets way too much credit as a recruiter. I also think his efforts were concentrated locally. Duzzi's staff has really amped it up. And they have a bigger budget for it and more support outside the program. But they are going after it hard. I definitely believe it's more than just the effect of transparency. I sense Narduzzi is on his staff relentlessly to get after it. It's just who he is.

I think, we are securing more visits from top players. I am sure other staffs invited a ton of top players too, they just didnt say yes like they appear to be doing now.

But I agree that I think pittsburghsportsnow is just great at writing story after story about it now, so we all can read and see who we are pursuing and bringing in. And I agree that Narduzzi seems more transparent, either cocky or stupid or both. But, I like it!

Pederson cash strapped Wanny & Crew so bad & it was amazing the kids he did get to PITT. So with the resources Wanny had I would say he was the recruitinator.

Duzz has plenty of resources & making the most of it with travel & his staff he hired to get these kids thinking of PITT.

Plus Duzz really understands social media which IMO if new coaches don't utilize that are trying to rebuild a program, you will never succeed.

Really creating a great buzz amongst prospects & fans.

Amazing how Pederson got paid so much money & did so little to inform the consumer of PITT, absolutely no creativity under him, he maxed out his ideas with PITTsburgh on the uni's & getting rid of the script.

I know some hate Wanny, but this message is spot on.

I know Wannstedt has a sweet gig now, but I like how Narduzzi is trying to mend fences with him, because the guy loved Pitt, and that was nice to see at that time.

yes. smiley wouldn't even replace the carpet. wanny and him went round and round over this. the absolute best pitt football day in a looooooooong time was when gallagher fired smiley. the turn around for pitt football started on this day.

Depends I suppose. From a bottom line standpoint, I'd agree, since a lot of his highly rated players ended up being busts.
But most of us were pretty happy on Signing Day.

It would be interesting to break down a few of his classes with Narduuzis, as to what percentage are local, rest of Pennsylvania, Florida, and elsewhere.

Pederson was certainly not a great leader or AD, but Nordenberg deserves much, much more of the blame than he gets. IMO he should probably get more blame than Pederson.

No way. Nordenberg at least saw the growth to a world class academic institution.
I'm talking about to Pitt football. Nordenberg shouldn't get a waiver on royally screwing over the football program (and what Steve Pederson had at his disposal) just because he did the other part of his job pretty well. And, let's not forget he cost Pitt a lot of money giving his buddy (who was clearly not doing a great job) a golden parachute on his way out of the door. Nordenberg deserves a ton of blame for Pitt football's woes.

And then the Golden Boy gave Dixon a golden parachute, in the form of a lifetime contract, on his way out of the door, and now we are stuck with him.

Right, he can coach up. His got his players playing at the top of the DII level. I would not want to play IUP today.

Today, will not be pretty.

Wanny deserves more credit than you give him. Let's get real. As you mention, Narduzzi has more money at his disposal and competes in a much better conference. Wanny on the other hand was hamstrung by comparison and had to compete in the NBE, a conference that many speculated would lose its BCS bid. When you add in the fact he also had to restore local ties that Walt frankly eroded, I think he did a commendable job.

so said pitt92dog. as if! Wait, it is PITT92DOG, all caps, as if.

and college ball this year is a joke.

Every dog has its day.

But i have to say FINALLY a visiting coach actually shook hands and spoke to Dixon. They usually just walk bye.

So one game made your year.

enjoy, it will not last long.

Betting you are a PIRATE fan also.

He brought in a few high profile local guys that got everybody excited but his rank and file signee wasn't great, and the results showed. We were perpetually undermanned along both lines of scrimmage, he never brought in a QB, and our defense always had holes at key positions. I was never impressed with the guy as a coach, recruiter, teacher, or competitor, neither was anyone else outside of a few diehards in the 412. Nice guy, Pitt guy all the way, but that's about it.
