Today was the first day coaches can contact the class of 2022. Below is my list of the top 5 targets I would have called today.

1. Mac Stout- obviously one of the best kids in the nation in our backyard. Family ties with Kellan just graduating, I know Luke went to Princeton but I honestly am not sure there is room for him to start early there so could be more appealing to stay home
2. Dayton Pitzer- Was an absolute monster his freshman year, missed all of last season with an injury
3. Erik Gibson- very high ceiling IMO, kid looks like he is about 3 or 4 weight classes higher. Also if we would land him would give us an edge with his younger brother who might end up being #1 in his class
4. Jared Keslar- has had some big wins last year including 2 over 2020 commit Petrucelli. Nice to snag a kid from Connellsville and keep the talent close
5. Jackson Arrington- teammates with Gibson at Forest Hills, would be nice to start a pipeline from that school. Could have easily of switched Levi Haines with him but figured Arrington would be more realistic

Any names I am missing?

Like the list, i know daytons family and his letters from colleges are piling up. He could have come back last year end of season but why take a chance at a reinjury. Even getting half of the above would be monumental.

I know Pitzer, Gibson and Keslar families as my son has trained and travelled with Gibson and Pitzer younger brothers with Team PA.
He has done the same with Keslar, even though he’s 4 grades ahead.

I think Pitt could have a realistic shot with Keslar.

Pitzer is already getting recruited by all the big boys, especially with his size, he can pretty much go wherever he wants. OSU and PSU have already contacted his coach. All American (Rob Waller) has ties everywhere and in my opinion I don’t see Waller pushing him to Pitt...just my opinion.

Gibson dad is involved with The Compound youth strength training in Johnstown. They are tight with Young Guns and Jody Stritmatter. If he’s good enough, I’d expect him to go to Iowa or PSU. The Younger Gibson ranked very high for his class. There’s another brother who’s pretty tough too. They are tight (and related) to the Bassett boys (Studs) who’s family runs the Compound and also Who’s dad runs some YG practices. I really can’t see any of them (Gibson / Bassett) at Pitt because of their ties and their pedigree.

I hope they all decide to come to Pitt, just don’t see a realistic chance with what I know.

The Ivy's have very good wrestling and with that degree doors open all over the country when you graduate. The true wrestling Blue bloods will always remain and be able to recruit the bodies they need. Pitt offers world class education but is not in the blue blood of wrestling so we will always fight for top tier wrestlers. We can still snag great wrestling classes but some of ours will be unpolished gems out of high school that develop in college. One thing i have noticed is our wrestlers dont seem to have the physical strength alot of the blue bloods have. Not sure if it is the weight training programs or just genetics.

I think Cole Homet is a great realistic target for Pitt. Keeps the Waynesburg pipeline going with Augustine coming in and of course Headlee in the coaching side. That program has a ton of underclassmen that would fit in well at Pitt

Been such a messed up year for sports, i am hoping by wrestling season they have adequate procedures to test so we dont lose another season. I believe each season now on in is going to be big steps forward.

Gibson is going to Cornell and from what I hear, they (the "handlers" out there at FH) are trying to get Arrington to Cornell as well. It could all be a package to get Mason and Bo Bassett to Cornell in a few years (although, I heard that Bassett isnre-enrolling in 7th grade and that group of JH hammers is leaving Forest Hills and enrolling at Bishop Whatever in Johnstown b/c Bassetts dad was told he can't help coach the FH varsity

Take that for what it's worth

I hear ya. I'm our JH coach, and the Varsity coach and I talk a few times a week and I've gotta be honest - not many people are very optimistic that there is going to be a season

I'd vote Yes to canceling all fall sports and forcing people to wear virus-proof bubbles they December so that we can have a wrestling season (JH, HS, college, etc) starting in January!

Bassett should going into 9th, so he’ll be a double redshirt. Hell of a wrestler and hard worker, so he will be successful no matter what he does.

My son was training there a few days a week, before PJW states, but hasn’t been back since it was postponed. I haven’t spoke with anyone up there, so haven’t heard much. I know he was trying to build a powerhouse with his boys and nephews, plus a few other kids he got to move into the district. He was trying to get us to move there, because my son “projects” weights, between the kids he has now. I’m glad we didn’t take that route if they’re going to McCort.
