Did anyone hear Clint Hurdle tonight pregame talk about the last St. Louis series In St. Louis, when asked about it he said something like "we lost to the best team in baseball 3 times by 1 run each game, that's the way I look at it" really? It sounded like they did a great job in that series only losing by 1 run in each game. Instead should have said they didn't play well, no timely hitting, left 18 runners on in one of those games, could not score runs, he made it sound like losing By 1 run to a good team is acceptable, Hurdle is a really good manager but I think that was off the wall

Coachspeak. The Pirates are struggling right now. Hurdle knows it and so does everyone else. He's just trying to portray confidence in his team. My advice. Don't watch pregame or post game stuff. It's irrelevant.

Like wbr said, what else is he going to say?
And while, yeah, losing the way they did all weekend in St. Louis isn't good, it is a better sign that they were doing that than getting blown out 8-2 every night.

Ah, come on guys. Clearly Hurdle should have said something like "my team sucks, several guys who are supposed to be our best players suck, the season has been a disaster, there is no hope for this team." How better to get the team to rally behind you than that?

The Pirate s have problems but Hurdle' s post game comments aren't one of them...in fact while he gets criticized often for tactical moves few coaches imo do a better job at looking toward holding his team together. Actually I think he does a great job usually of breaking down baseball games in his post games.
He was the right guy for the team he became charged with a few years ago and considering the team he has now too.

In fairness to him, and I say this as someone who believes he's severely limited, the Pirates' success against the Cards is relatively remarkable over the past several years.

Once Cutch, Harrison, and Mercer regress they should be okay. By extension, you'd imagine that guys like Holliday, Wong, and Bourjos will regress the other way.

But, Cardinals Devil Magic is a recognized thing for a reason.

One of these days matt holiday is going to start getting old and start to suck. It still hasnt happened.

edit: Holiday's contract is through 2016, and the Cards have a 2017 $17 million option. So I'm going to guess the cards won't pick that option up, and Matt Holiday will start to suck sometime around April 2017.
