Coach Capel speaking out re: protests

I post this at the risk of it being moved elsewhere, but this is Pitt basketball related.

While many collegiate head coaches have remained mostly silent on the protests and riots around the country, Coach Capel has been active on Twitter the last couple days. In fact, his voice has arguably been the loudest among coaches. In addition to calling for an end to racism, he’s been sharing a lot of positive moments in what’s been a dark time.




I think it’s awesome to see a Pitt Man trying to create unity and stay proactive in moments like this. I think you can also make the argument that it’s part of the reason why he’s such a strong recruiter; he can relate to all his players and is passionate about what they’re passionate about.

That is the kind of coach we need. To be entertained by young African American men who at any moment could have their lives taken away while I have no fear under my white privilege is sobering. He is an amazing man and deserves all respect.

It's great that he promotes a cause. But if he is retweeting 50 Cent endorsements of specific candidates, then he's going to run into problems. I don't know that he did because I don't follow twitter to know how it works. If he endorses someone who ends up doing something unpopular, he'll get tarred with it.

I think some of the things people got upset at jeff about was retweeting an nba players response and in one part the nba player said that violence is not encouraged but sometimes u might have to for people to take notice. Liking that tweet to some was a turn off.

The truth of the matter is most racist people usually keep it Undercover until somebody exposes them or they expose themselves by accident. Then you have those people that are racist who has been taught it since a young age and just grow up that way and don't even realize how racist they are and those people are just ignorant to the fact. What's true is some people choose to ignore it or don't realize it really does exist all over and that's because they stereotype black people and think because the cops stop someone that they did something wrong because they think racial profiling is not something that's done by police. We really have to get this thinking out of the equation and start respecting People for who they are because of their character and not their color.

I really liked what Coach Capel said beginning at 18:44. He has a great perspective and laid it out so logically. I wonder who wrote the teleprompter feed for him?
