Coach K ceremony

Three things watching this.

1) I really wish Jeff Capel was there.
2) It was cool trying to identify all the ex Dookies
3) What the hell was K's daughter thinking allowing her 15 year old daughter to wear that top.
Freaking ESPN man. Will they ever learn? Luckily, I accidentally had ACCN on and watched the pregame festivities and beginning of the game on there because ESPN didn't bother showing the game until halfway through the 1st Half because, you know, college games don't fit in a 2 hour window and the other games went long.

Is it that insane to do a noon, 2:15, 4:30, 6:45, 9:00 schedule?

Looking back at the Peach Bowl, a CFP game, they missed like the whole 1st quarter because they felt it was so important to start the Music City Bowl exactly 3 and a half hours before the Peach? They couldn't have 4 or 4.5 hours in between?

Yeah I thought it was cool. You have to respect what he’s done there. And it was cool to see all those former players. But yeah wtf with that crop top or whatever that was!

He's always seemed like a dude who always has to be the smartest guy in the room. I've heard him use a few iterations of "No one else understands what I know," and it just comes across as sanctimony. But they've won so much that he hasn't had to peel back the Mr. Nice Guy layer very often.

The ceremony was okay, I guess. I could have done without the grandkids being there, but whatever. Is one of them a walk-on for Duke or something? Looked like he was in full uniform.

I think Duke basketball is a very special program/place. It's just something sort of foreign to me that doesn't really hit home at all.

People are weird about hating Duke
What’s to actually hate ?
Small school in a city without much of a local fanbase - who plays in a band box stadium
Most of the people in the state hate it and root for the cash cow massive school

I always liked Duke. Hahaha. I did. I loved Laettner, Hill and Hurley. I was a "Dookie" bandwagoner then I admit, especially living in ACC country in the mid to late 90s'. Then eventually Pitt got good again. I don't like Duke now because they cursed us with inCapelable.

I never hated Duke. I always did root against them but not because they're Duke, because they're a blue blood and I always want blue bloods to lose.

I was a teenager when UNLV and Tark were a powerhouse and Duke was the upstart. I never liked Duke because it felt like they tried to shove them down your throats as the good guys. The media did the same thing when the Fab Five came together and became rivals with Duke. As I got older, their obnoxious bandwagon fans that don’t even know where it’s located have become my disdain. They are similar to ND football in many ways. I don’t hate them. Just root against them in most cases.

I thought the same thing.

The other thing that I was thinking was say what you will about the guy, I wish we could get to the point at Pitt where we had either a men's basketball or a football coach who was retiring from Pitt and had done a good enough job here for long enough that we would feel compelled to have a ceremony like that for them.

Exactly what I was thinking also. Especially when they panned the crowd and all those former great players were sitting there. I was thinking that Pitt football could have been like that with all the college and pro hall of famers. If Foge had only worked out after Major Majors!

Coach K over ruled the athletic director and president of the university. Those guys wanted Tommy Amaker to be the head coach to replace K. But Mr Duke wanted Scheyer and so that’s story. He picked his successor and now says he won’t be hanging around the program. Maybe coach K can visit Bobby knight and they can make up

Is this based upon someone’s book or is there actual proof that this is what happened?

ETA: I'm a Bomani fan and I thought the clip was funny. You SOBs better not get this thread deleted.

duke was easy to dislike back in the 90s and early 00s but really havent been all that polarizing enough the last 10-15 years to love or hate with any real passion. duke lost to va tech and no one really even noticed or cared.

Ski,

If it makes you feel better..... Dr. J was my favorite athlete as a kid growing up.
I rooted for Magic over Bird in 1979 Champ game.
I rooted for Louisville and the Dr's of Dunk in 1980.
I rooted for and was crushed when NC State beat Phi Slamma Jamma.
And I hated Georgetown, but not because of the "black" thing, but because I was a Pitt fan.

And yes, I loved the Fab Five.

What is ironic is Grant Hill, Shane Battier, Brian Davis were prep school kids as was Christian Laettner, but Laettner's family was pure middle class, not some privileged rich kid and Hurley was pure Jersey, his dad was a HS basketball coach.

But yeah, Duke. I don't think all of these one and dones are conjugating verbs or solving differential calculus in their spare time.

Nah I get it. I was mostly looking for an excuse to post the video and laugh at Bobby Hurely wearing kids medium shorts.

It takes a lot to get me to legitimately laugh out loud and this clip got me a good 4-5 times.

when laetner says he just gave the guy on the floor a "tap" with his foot then it goes back to him and he says "azzhole", i literally lol'd.

the "Too far Jalen" comment was funny too. that video makes me realize how much i miss those georgetown villain teams..

If a white guy did this about a black coach..

Rioting in the streets, cops shot, Spike Lee holding protests at MSG.

Oh the humanity..
i took it as a compliment to coach k. a white coach with multiple white players dominated a black sport against more athletic black teams. he's kinda just complimenting him and the duke culture in a comedic way.

plus, and im sure this wont go over well, but some people enjoy the victim role and embrace the victim culture and others dont, hence why it's not a big deal.

Make me miss when you actually knew who college players were and they were around long enough to like or hate. Now? It is like playing an EA Sports college BB with a bunch of generic names.

Please stop with Dukie lovefest. I hoped PITT fans would have had enough of that garbage when Kyzyzewski was canonized by Capel at the Pete.
Capel should have been more focused on the pounding the outmanned Pitt basketball team was about to take.

Nothing like watching local yinzers cheering on their dukies at The Pete.
