In 2011, we had Alabama play LSU. Aside from being one of the lowest rated BCS Champ games in history, it involved obviously two of the same conference teams.

Now that we are in a 4 team playoff, you would think the chances of having two teams from the same conference would go up, right? I am thinking wrong.

With this committee choosing the participants, I think you are going to see this as less and less of a possibility. I think most fans (except those SEC! SEC! SEC!) want to see SOME representation of the college football landscape in the playoffs and matchups, instead of it being the sole dominion of cotton mouthed rednecks.

Even if most of us acknowledge that maybe 2 of the best 4 teams might be in the same conference, I believe most want 4 conferences/independents represented.

I agree with you with what the fans want. We'll see if the committee agrees as time goes on.

We won't be able to test this theory until we have a situation where a second team from a P5 conference is clearly one of the best 4 teams in the country.

We haven't been close to that these first two years. OSU this year was the closest, but there was none of the final four that they could possibly have a claim of being better than - with the exception of their conference mate MSU.

Let's see what happens when we actually have a situation like in 2011.
