I wonder if Pitt would be better off as a big fish in a smaller pond? Cobble together some conference of Pitt, Temple, BC, Cuse, UConn,, Marshall, etc.

Our chances could be better to win more games and conference championships and then compete with the other non power conference champs for the runt at-large spot.

However, I could see Pitt athletics just reverting to the same level that they always are at the lower level.

That's exactly what would happen. Pitt would find a way to be a goldfish in that conference.

You just described the Big East, circa 2006-2010. We saw what the results were then.
