I know I was extremely hard on Collier last year. Said all he could do was run and jump and he didn’t make that translate into anything.

Towards the end of the season, he showed he could get open and convert on the roll.

Still really needs to improve setting screens, free throws and defense, big time.

Hoping that he sticks around And puts in the work on that.

I think Collier’s biggest issue is being pegged into a situation where he’s playing the backup 5. I see his skillset as much closer to a guy like Gueye (with worse shooting) playing alongside a guy like Hugley than he is being the guy down there in the post. It’s not his fault that we don’t have anyone else other than Hugley who can be a competent 5, and I think it’s hurting his development.

If he’s going to develop his game it’s going to be on his own or with some trainer/coach outside of Pitt. The current Pitt staff is incompetent. It’s no coincidence that Justin made a big leap when he was away from this staff due to covid restrictions.

Was it McGhee who took time to develop but became a pretty good contributor for us?
Yes, Gary was one of a handful of bigs who looked like they had never touched a basketball before coming here that ended up integral parts of highly successful, teams. In my opinion Gary improved the most, he was flat out uncoordinated and awful when he stepped on campus, by his senior year he was a dependable player in every aspect of the game
