Being comfortable is good in most situations in life. Having your football players comfortable is not. What separates the Sabans and Urban Myers’ of the world from being mediocre is that they give 0 F$&ks about hurting feelings if players are not performing. If you know your job is safe no matter what you do or how you do it you’re probably not gonna be the best employee you can be. Some will, many won’t. Same as players. Once these guys get anointed as “the guy” there is no reason for them to grind everyday, no reason to always try to out do their last performance. Teams that compete with each other all season long tend to play better, be more disciplined, make fewer mental errors. Saban benched a franchise qb in the championship game. Dabo sat a kid who just got a million dollars from Dr Pepper. Seems like our guys reward players for pooping the bed. Miss some tackles…….back rub… get back out there and miss some more. 10 for 32 ……..It’s ok we’ll get em next week. No that’s not how it should work.
The lack of on campus stadium or having less 5 stars has nothing to do with us never getting over the hump. That mind set is toxic and eventually poisons the whole team.
