HOOP SCHOOL officially is dead. We are back to being a FOOTBALL SCHOOL! A mediocre one, but a football school.

Well until Narduzzi leaves in 2 years.

Why is he going to leave in 2 years? Because fans hate the new basketball coach?

Why should he leave now? Because fans hate the new basketball coach?

Please, no speculation about how it shows Pitt isn't serious or whatever hysterical nonsense you want to fling out because you feel distressed. Pitt was serious enough to hire Narduzzi and pay for the staff he wanted (the defensive staff at least).

This stuff is embarrassing. Narduzzi's going to leave, he should leave, blah blah blah... over a basketball coach hire.

Get a grip already. Please.

Maybe because Barnes is a ham handed bumbling idiot? Another guy who won the presser but failed to deliver.

Or because it shows the AD (who didn't hire him) is a buffoon.

So the football coach is going to leave because the AD was a ham handed bumbling idiot regarding... the basketball coach. While the football coach has gotten basically everything he wanted from day one from the athletic department and its director, and from the chancellor. But he's going to leave... because the new basketball coach hire shows the AD's an idiot.

Making a lot of sense here fellas. Letting feelings direct your thinking always does. Do you want to leave your job because the boss gives you whatever you say you need to do your job, but he made a horrifically bad hire in another department that has little impact on yours?

Pat Narduzzi is not any of us. Thank God. He would have thrown a tantrum and quit after the Iowa game last year if he were.

But since he isn't, he's not likely to share the puerile rage directed at the AD that is being expressed. I wish I could say I haven't read such stupidity before, but this is a Pitt message board. Such stupidity is expressed all the time here.

Just because you want to throw your binkies on the floor over Barnes hiring Stallings doesn't mean Narduzzi wants to join you. He also probably doesn't share your opinion that Barnes is a scum-sucking moron whose scum-sucking moron-ness makes him impossible to work with.

Did you listen to Barnes' presser? How about the interview the next day on The Fan? I listened to both. Based on what he said today he looks like a fool.

Is he a bumbling idiot? Is he a fool? I don't know which is why I said maybe. But if he turns out to be that then all bets are off. I don't think Narduzzi is they type to suffer fools.

I hope Barnes proves to be a good AD. I hope Stallings does well. But Barnes painted himself into a corner with a lot of bluster and bravado and relative to his words this hire is a TOTAL dud.

I'm sure Narduzzi is really concerned with how Barnes looks and sounds at pressers.

Why would Narduzzi have to suffer Barnes being a fool about basketball?

He's the football coach.

Football. Not basketball.

Do you have any evidence whatsoever that Barnes has been a fool regarding football that Narduzzi has had to suffer? Any at all? Or is it just crystal-ball gazing going on here.

Because I don't see why the football coach would care much about who the basketball coach is. Unless Stallings embarrasses the university by threatening a player again or something. And even then, any football coach who would quit over an incident that like, unconnected to HIS team, would be the person I'd label "fool."

The football program and basketball program are not symbiotes, or extremely interconnected, or dependent on each other. If Stallings stinks and it hurts revenue that's about the most negative thing that this hire could do to football.

I understand people are very upset and pissed at Barnes about this hire and it makes THEM think that they could never work for Barnes, but that doesn't mean Narduzzi shares their opinion or even their perspective. He's the head football coach, out to prove himself, only one year under his belt as a head coach, he's not a fan who's been aggravated by 30 years of SOP.

Nope. No evidence at all. But if he's a fool he'll be a fool for everything eventually. He did make a great hire for soccer though.

But he was supposed to be a "basketball guy".

I watch maybe one Pitt basketball game per year, but I'm pretty surprised they didn't make a great hire here. They really pulled out all the stops to land that soccer coach, and to say Pitt's place in the hoops hierarchy is way above its spot in the soccer hierarchy is a significant understatement.

Why does a Hall of Fame soccer coach want to come here but a successful basketball coach doesn't? Seems odd.

Pat is already gone. It is now his less successful but equally quirky twin brother Matt. Things are about to get real interesting.

Actually, Narduzzi's place looks even stronger today. Barnes has offended a reasonable % of the Pitt fan base....most BB fans are also FB fans. The Duzz should just keep on hustling & winning friends. Having both revenue sports clicking on all cylinders is the ideal situation, but FB shouldn't skip a beat. I'd worry more if Duzz left and Barnes was still AD. Let's hope Pat just kills it here....and loves it.

I heard Saban almost left a number of times because Alabama had a bad basketball coach, no football coach wanted to go to Florida because Donovan left, Pitino threw a fit because they re-hired Petrino, Williams was going to quit because NC football faked test grades, Huggins can't recruit because of Holgerson..............etc.

The soccer coach wants to be at Pitt. He sought them out. He is looking for a challenge of coaching in one of (if not) the best soccer conferences. Pitt has not won an ACC soccer match in 3 years so the only direction is up. The guy will attract talent just as he has attracted good assistant coaches. Why not improve your sport profile in soccer or any suffering sport at Pitt?

I don't think so. I think he has a chance to be a very good coach and is working for a boss, who didn't hire him, who is an idiot.
So you as a PITT "fan" thinks that the Duzz is a good coach so he should leave the program you are a "fan" of. That will certainly help the program. I've had bosses who I thought were idiots, but they were also smart enough to leave me alone and let me do my thing. This is what I believe the Duzz has going, he ain't leavin so don't get your hopes up PITT "fan"

New soccer coach called them, that's correct according to the Trib. But actually getting him took a lot of money and many concessions. They decided over a period of a few weeks that a coach of this caliber coming to them out of nowhere is worth the investment to become a soccer school, which is a pretty smart decision considering recent trends. It took a month to reach an agreement.

I just don't understand why Pitt can attract a great soccer coach like that but not a great basketball coach. Not even an up & coming basketball coach with local ties like Dayton's coach? Something's up. The least he could do is use the open Pitt job as leverage for a new contract LOL.

The basketball situation made me nervous about Narduzzi for 2 reasons:

1. In coaching circles, Jamie is viewed extremely positively but Narduzzi just saw his AD let him walk, basically showing him the door, the best coach in program history.

2. Fans wanting Dixon gone then fans' overreaction to Stallings hire.

Narduzzi could be thinking fan expectations are unrealistic and his AD (who didnt hire him) is not a good decision maker.

Because Vidovich wanted back into the college game, wanted back to the east coast(ish) and wanted to be back in the ACC (the premier soccer conference). There was one ACC opening. Timing. Sometimes you get lucky. Kudos for Barnes for taking advantage of that timing, the soccer reputation of the new conference, and the new financial wherewithal that the ACC provided. Thanks to Pederson for getting a soccer facility constructed that otherwise would have kept Vidovich from ever considering Pitt.

the relationship between AD and Duzzi is going to be important factor on Duzzi's stay with pitt. Hope these two get along. As odd as it sounds but Barnes works for Duzzi, not the other way around.. People with a 7 figure annual salary don't work for people who have a 6 figure annual salary, no matter what the university org chart says..

hope mr. Utah state remembers that in his dealings with our football coach..

Duzzi is far from a place where he has that sort of influence. There are plenty of people at universities that make more than Chancellors and ADs, including select surgeons, deans, etc, and unless you have a messed up situation like to the east, the higher salaries absolutely do not change the organizational chart. And Harris, Wannstedt, and Dixon are perfect examples of that.

That said, the relationship between Barnes and Duzzi is very important. Coach/AD/Chancellor relationships always are.

So, you don't think he could be a very good coach here at Pitt? And he should leave because Barnes didn't hire him. If Duzz puts up some good numbers Barnes would be run out of town before Duzz

My reason for saying Narduzzi will leave in 2 years has NOTHING to do with a lot of you sharks in the bloody waters think.

Not because of Barnes. No. Because of Pitt. Because of Pitt fans. When he realizes 10-15K of "season ticket sales" were bought by PSU fans. When he sees how petulant we act when something didn't go our way. That we have unrealistic expectations. That we think we are some kind of power program. We are not. 7 years. 7 years of national relevance in 70 years of football doesn't lie.

No, I think he can be a very good coach, but he has a buffoon for a boss. Usually folks want to get out of those type of situations.
